I had an extra Chichibu so managed to sort out a swap for this:

Was top whisky in 2009 at the Malt Maniacs awards. Sounds like a cracking old sherry dram.
Is this one to open or collect? I'd have to be feeling very flush before I opened that! https://www.whiskybase.com/whiskies/whisky/10756/g...

Some I've had before and know I like.
Tamnavulin is a new one for me, and thought I'd give it a try. Yamazaki I've had before, although not sure it was that particular one (this one was £55 and I think the one I tried before was double that). The lone bottle without a box (hard to see the name, and it's too cold for me to go back outside to check!) was a gamble - but the fact that it says "Just enough peat to start a fire" sold it to me!

Probably to open at some point. It's one of the more accurate prices on whiskybase (normally WB is miles wrong as it's either old prices years out of date, or silly high prices as they're the ones no one ever buys), but I paid quite a lot less for the Chichibu, so I effectively got it much cheaper than market price. So makes it a lot easier to be ok with drinking it. It's a lot of money, but seems like prices just keep moving up and so if you want any good old style older aged whisky you can't get much cheaper - at least that is sherried.

What did you get? I did similar last year when they were clearing out Ardbeg 10 for £23 a bottle. Bought all 6 at 10.30am and got a couple of funny looks. Well worth it though, still got 4 sitting in the cupboard!

The Winters Gold however I love-and it's pretty much universally derided as (if I remember correctly) it's blended to be drunk over ice.

Edited to add Select is currently £21.25 on Amazon

I like the Select - I've had it before, so know I like it and the glass I had last night was lovely. I've also had the Winters Gold before, but didn't open it last night.
I did however have several glasses of a couple of the others. The bottle with no case - still not sure what it was called! - was perfectly drinkable, but nothing particularly special. I'll see if it grows on me, at the moment I doubt I'd buy it again.
The Tamnavulin was lovely - much nicer than I was expecting.

The Dalwhinnie is a lovely dram as is the Tamnavulin, very simple and easy drinking!!

My whisky collection has got seriously depleted over the last year or so - I am now planning to start building it back up before Christmas. Was in Costco earlier, and noticed they had Laphroaig Lore - I'm a fan of Laphroaig but hadn't seen that before, so couldn't resist - although it's a tad more expensive at £65 a bottle.
I'll be sampling it this evening.![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
They’ve also got a Glenfarclas 25 for 84 if my memory serves me correctly - fantastic dram for a fantastic price . I'll be sampling it this evening.

Thanks for your thoughts, sounds like something I might pick up on offer but won't actively seek out in that case. For anyone who likes Speyside malts, Benriach 12 is on offer for £20 here with £5 delivery which is an absurd bargain. Extremely good distillery, sister to GlenDronach I believe.

That's an old part of their core range, now discontinued (see the older style label), and has been for some time. A real bargain. https://www.drinksupermarket.com/benriach-12-years...

I need to keep off this thread, it's costing me a fortune! Thanks to the link from SD_1 above, I've now had to buy a Benriach 12 that was too cheap to turn down, and worse than that, I then browsed the site and spotted an Aberlour White Oak 2001 that I didn't even know existed, and bloody bought that as well!

Anyone spotted any really good black Friday deals? Looking for something interesting for my dad for ~£100
Other than those mentioned so far, it seems disappointing. I was really hoping the KA III would be in it, but sadly not. I tried the Glenfarclas 25 last night - only a small glass, but wasn't overly impressed. At the moment, I wish I'd spent my £95 elsewhere. Still - mate is coming round tonight for a "whisky night" so I'll see how I get on with it this evening.

Not seen any black Friday deals, but for under £100 it's hard not to recommend a Glendronach 15 or 18. For something different, how about Glengoyne's new release of their Teapot Dram?https://shop.glengoyne.com/the-teapot-dram-batch-0...
