The very same. They're also big petrolheads and used to look out for what car I was driving when I turned up.
I worked nearby for a few years and frequented pretty much every takeaway in that area. If grilled chicken is what you prefer then I recommend checking out HFC on Lodge Lane. The extra hot piri piri has a decent level of heat

Much easier to pop into Greggs or M&S when I don’t take lunch with me.
What do you order out of Greggs? Their advertising stresses the popularity of their sausage rolls but I really dislike them.KFC, in my experience, is by far the most variable fast food outlet in quality. A girl I knew who worked in one left me with the impression that KFC has the potential to be the best fast food for the same reason it isn't. Virtually everything is done in the restaurant meaning it can either be done really well or really poorly, leading to variation.

Greggs, usually around 10:30 I have a cappachino (better than pret) and a sausage roll
If I’m having lunch they have really nice hot chicken strips southern fried, and the cheese and onion crisp they have are great too.
Festive bakes are the best but rest of the year I have a sausage bean and cheese melt or a steak bake.
Sandwich wise the Mexican oval bite or the ploughman’s are both great.
Treat myself to a caramel custard doughnut on a Friday too
They have a excellent rewards app too, buy 9 of anything amg er one free

I'm swayed! I forgot all about the Mexican sandwiches, but the last time I had one (years ago!) it did strike me as having been particularly nice. There are a few things you've mentioned from Greggs that I haven't tried, so I'm glad I didn't write it off altogether. I don't know if all branches do them or not but the 'pizzas' they do are unusually moreish. And yes, all credit to them for their doughnuts, which somehow manage to feel fresh no matter what time of the day it is.Greggs, usually around 10:30 I have a cappachino (better than pret) and a sausage roll

Do enjoy the pizza too!I just like it because it’s not pretentious and doesn’t try to be anything it’s not!
Tried pret recrently, overpriced and crap coffee
I love the Greggs almond croissant and cinnamon roll too

Pret is one chain I've never tried. I've only seen one branch, in Stratford, and genuinely had no interest in it. Went to Barnaby's instead and had a proper feed.I just like it because it’s not pretentious and doesn’t try to be anything it’s not!

Their breakfast bacon rolls take some beating, and very cheap. `I'll often get 2 of their bacon roll & coffee deals.
Together, you have convinced me I am missing out on the best of Greggs. There's a lot on the menu I haven't explored which all sounds lovely.LeadFarmer said:

Yes, another thumbs up for the coffee and bacon butty deal, they seem to get the ratio of bacon to roll just right and it is excellent value for money. Do not under any circumstances be tempted to upgrade to the baguette.
I sometimes do upgrade to the baguette but when doing so I usually go for sausage & bacon. The downside to the Greggs bacon butty deal is that it probably takes trade away from independent sandwich shops, which seem to be in decline which is sad as a good buttie shop is worth keeping.

I always add extra bacon. £2.45 with a coffee is a bargain.giblet said:
My main gripe with Maccys has always been the price. Much prefer visiting the local bossman chicken shop but to each their own
I'm curious as to how anyone could take issue with the price of a McDonalds? It is £4.69 for burger, fries and a drink! You would pay almost as much in most sandwich shops for a baguette and a can of Coke!

I guess it depends on where you are in the country. It’s grim up here in the North but takeaways are cheap. £3 gets you a chicken fillet burger with chips and a can of soft drink. Portion sizes are larger than the average standard McDonalds meal too.It is £4.69 for burger, fries and a drink! You would pay almost as much in most sandwich shops for a baguette and a can of Coke!
I find a meal from a generic chicken shop type place fills me up whereas with McDonalds I end up needing to buy something extra.
Still, to each their own. I must admit McDonalds is somewhere I’ve always looked out for when travelling abroad as you are always sure that they will be the same standard regardless of where you are in the world.

I live in Wellington, Somerset. In the last few months a McDonalds has opened nearby.
Throughout my life I have always enjoyed a Big Mac. I like the fact that they don't have ketchup by default and for a fiver with a drink and fries... well they are what they are. They're OK.
When I go for a Maccy D's these days it is because I've been out for a walk/trip to DIY store and am passing on the way home. Invariably this is for lunch, dinner is always planned, Maccys never replaces the evening meal.
The HUGE appeal for me though is the quick and easy drive through. If there was a drive through chippy, or chinese, or curry house I'd be all over it. But there isn't. We have Subway but the wait is painful.

I take your point. I've been to some local pizza shops in various towns where you could get a fully loaded 12" pizza for £5.
When you think of it, there's absolutely no reason why pizza shouldn't be that cheap anywhere. Much cheaper to produce than a burger/kebab. Even going to Waitrose for ingredients, I can make 12" pizza with tonnes of great toppings for peanuts.

Unless you're chucking fake cheese and 'faked' meat toppings on it.
A practice that's rife among the cheaper pizza restaurants: https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/pizzas-cont...
Buyer beware, as ever.
I'm no huge fan of McDs, although it's laughable to call it expensive - but you can always guarantee that you get what you're paying for.
