My brother was on Skye with some of his wife's family, and had asked if I wanted anything picked up. They only have a "limited edition" of 6000 bottles normally, which is supposed to be ok but nothing special, so I said not to bother. Due to bad weather they ended up taking a tour anyway, and discovered 2 days ago they have their first ever BYO. He checked with me, and I changed my mind about picking something up, biggrin

2012 red wine cask, 7yo, 60.1% abv.

Will you be drinking it? I've never been blown away by Talisker for some reason. I don't remember there being anything special at all available when I visited, let alone a hand fill, so it's good to see they're offering something new.

Received an email from Whisky Exchange today, the highly investible biggrin Game of Thrones range on special offer. I do think the Lagavulin is a good buy for drinking at £45.95.

I wonder if the GoT whisky prices have been affected in any way by the fact the last season was so rubbish....

A little less rounded, slightly more harsh. But I haven't had any for many years, so that may have changed, I do remember it was a big old dram that needed savouring over time.

laugh That's some going! I didn't even bother selling mine, I knew I'd missed the boat and they would tank once it transpired that good old Macallan had decided to produce a gazillion of the damn things. It could be worse, you could be one of the people who bid on whisky hammer when they first came out and spent £900+ on a bottle.

To my untrained pallet, it's slightly sweeter and a bit lighter on the finish, but then again (apparently) the 16 is not as good as it used to be.

Talking of auctions, I'm just sitting at my computer, keeping an eye on a few bargains I've bid on in the Whisky Auctioneer auction that ends from 7pm tonight, and the website has died. The message says the site will be back up and running by 14.30gmt. Erm, as in tomorrow afternoon?? confused

It's been slow for me this evening - guess they are trying to avoid big complaints by sellers if the site has been down.

Plan is to open 1 at some point, and see how it is. I think most Taliskers I have had are variations of NAS 40-46% stuff. So looking forward to trying a single cask from them. The 1985 Maritime Talisker is a decent dram from previous experience. The BYO is completely new, before they had "Limited Edition" versions of 6000 bottles, again a NAS batch.

It is, especially since I've now been outbid on four of the five lots I was winning. grumpy

Another friend has refused to use them again now, hehe Partly due to other things - they changed payment date to 3 days after auction, and have the more expensive 10% fees compared to SWA.

MrsC, a lifelong advocate, also made the same point about the 16 last year. I can't tell the bloody difference against the stuff we were buying a while back.

Got an email this AM saying that my bottle of this is on the way. I initially bought it to flip but the reviews it has been getting on the Glendronach facebook site are all very positive so it may well end up as a special occasion bottle.

Note - not my picture

For those like me that can't see certain pics at work - 1992 Glendronach 27yo, cask 5850. https://www.whiskybase.com/whiskies/whisky/149971/...

That should be it now.

Yes indeed. Didn't win the ballot but got lucky with the 2nd round which was essentially a fastest finger first affair upon receipt of an email from Abbey Whisky.

Seems to be the first signs of what does corona mean for whisky is basically business as usual! Or a jump in value in auction, which presumably will pull the distillery values up with it over time. Looks like a weaker pound and lots of extra money being printed which will end up in assets (including whisky) is going to push price up for drinkers in UK.

i don't know whether this was planned anyway or whether it was a rushed Corona reaction, but Ardbeg have started doing a 5.y.o., which is coming in at the lower price end of their range
