I need to use up some of my open bottles as I keep opening up ones to try then revert back to my usuals.
I've some that I want to experiment with, saw somewhere online that a chap bought a kit for sherry finishing. Consisted of long thin bits of oak that you soaked in sherry for a bit then put them into the bottle you wanted to flavour. Only problem is, my Google skills suck and I can't find anything similar.
Anyone know what I mean or am I rambling?
Finished off a Glengoyne 18 the other night, going to try the 21 next I think.
Don't waste your time with wood, just buy a bottle of pedro ximenez, a bottle of oloroso, and a pipette. Pour some whisky into a glass and then add sherry as you see fit. Ardbeg 10 and pedro ximenez is a good mix but it can easily overpower less strongly flavoured whisky.I've some that I want to experiment with, saw somewhere online that a chap bought a kit for sherry finishing. Not sure if it is has happened before, but for sure it has happened on at least 3 bottles this auction. Some of the bottles have been reduced in price - sometimes by over £1500! I posted on their facebook asking about it, and they deleted my post and never responded. It looks like they are presumably allowing people to bid up their own bottles with other accounts, and then pull the highest bid once they find out the max limit of the other person?!

Really? That's disgraceful if so. Mind you, you are obviously looking at a different caliber of bottle to me, the one I've just won in the auction was £55 + fees. ![hehe](/inc/images/hehe.gif)

More as a friend had mentioned about the Jokers going for crazy price (I have one which I got for rrp) so had a look, was £5600, then had a look later and price was then 5400, then a few days later down to 5200. One of them noticed a Hanyu SC going from 2500 down to 750 or so at one point too. Those were just ones we mentioned to each other.
My only purchase was £31, so looks like you're the big spender,

Tempted to ask them by email, and see what they say.

By the time you've added fees and carriage, you're pretty much at the original release price, but I'm happy enough with that.
Part 2 of the 'Perfect Collection' auction starts on 10th, it'll be interesting to see what's in that one. I won an '89 Aberlour in part 1.
I have not followed this thread much but have just created a whiskey investment thread.

My current selection. The Bunnahabain on the right was my 70th birthday present from my best whiskey mate a couple of weeks ago, he knows his stuff, absolutely lovely!

My favourite is still the Ben Riach Solstice though, I'm trying to drink it sparingly as it's no longer available.
I had a bottle of the Benriach Solstice a few years ago, like you I made it last as long as possible and I've yet to find anything that can match those delicious flavours. ![](https://thumbsnap.com/sc/xkJrZGjU.jpg)

Seeing as you enjoy the Bunnahabain too, have you tried a bottle of Port Charlotte 'Heavily Peated'?
I've taken a bit of a punt on a friend's recommendation. It's a mate's birthday, and I'd usually take him out for a few beers to celebrate. He's not a big whisky drinker, but has always expressed a desire to explore.
I've taken him to Cadenhead's and Milroy's on a few occasions, but my penchant for peaty drams doesn't match his like for something smoother and softer. As a consequence, I've had to rely on recommendations from others.
I've ordered him a bottle of Blair Athol 12yo Flora and Fauna Single Malt on a recommendation, as an intro to a whisky style that's not common to me. It came highly recommended to me by more than one person.
Does anyone have any experience?

Good choice, one of my favourites. I expect he will love it.I've taken him to Cadenhead's and Milroy's on a few occasions, but my penchant for peaty drams doesn't match his like for something smoother and softer. As a consequence, I've had to rely on recommendations from others.
