Couple of birthday presents...

The Auchentoshan is lovely as an every day whisky, it's keeping me going through this hehe

I'm just waiting for Bushmills to reopen so that I can go and stock up on their 12 year old distillery reserve, that's also a lovely tipple.

More as a friend had mentioned about the Jokers going for crazy price (I have one which I got for rrp) so had a look, was £5600, then had a look later and price was then 5400, then a few days later down to 5200. One of them noticed a Hanyu SC going from 2500 down to 750 or so at one point too. Those were just ones we mentioned to each other.

My only purchase was £31, so looks like you're the big spender, winkhehe

Tempted to ask them by email, and see what they say.
No harm in asking!

Ok, you beat me at £31! hehe This is the bottle I won:

https://www.whiskyauctioneer.com/lot/259704/benria...

By the time you've added fees and carriage, you're pretty much at the original release price, but I'm happy enough with that.

Part 2 of the 'Perfect Collection' auction starts on 10th, it'll be interesting to see what's in that one. I won an '89 Aberlour in part 1.
Received an email from Whisky Auctioneer, another two day auction extension blaming excessive loads on the server! Someone more cynical than me might start to wonder if some funny business was going on to try and achieve higher prices... wink

I've ordered him a bottle of Blair Athol 12yo Flora and Fauna Single Malt on a recommendation, as an intro to a whisky style that's not common to me. It came highly recommended to me by more than one person.

Does anyone have any experience?

As it happens I had a delivery of Blair Athol 12yr old this afternoon. I normally drink fairly “medicinal” types of whisky like Laphroaig or Talisker, and I’d just finished off a nice bottle of Ardbeg. Anyway the Blair Athol arrived this afternoon and I’m just enjoying the first glass of it now.

So far it’s very nice, I’m st at describing flavours but it’s definitely quite a change from the normal smoky, burnt wood/peaty flavours of Ardbeg or Talkisker. It’s more erm... spicy? Fruity maybe. Definitely goes down easily. I’ll need another one or two to get a better idea though.

why do people say "win" when they BUY something at auction? You didn't win it, you paid money and bought it!

Because you win in a competitive context against other bidders.

Glad to hear it. Feedback from the recipient is pretty good so far, and it definitely sounds like an easier drinker than my preference of something like a Lagavulin.

well you kind of do win the auction, that is the term... you are competing against others to buy it.

First try of this one over the weekend after the Mrs had been recipe testing.

Haven't had a 10yo (discontinued and replaced by this) in a wee while so will have to get another to compare.

Initial thoughts are that it's really good, as per usual with Tamdhu. Ever so slight smoky taste once its gone down which I'm not usually a fan of but this is slight. Certainly won't put me off it.

I really like Tamdhu, I have another 12 and a 15 to tuck into as well.

So, Ardbeg Blaaack going on sale this morning to committee members! Anyone get it? It's literally just gone out of stock as I was going through with my purchase!

Their tasting notes:
Ardbeg said:
Sweet fruit pudding knits together seamlessly with cedar wood and aromatic cigars. Oak tannins and rich truffles break away to reveal a subtle note of smoky jam tart.

Opened mine last week, its very nice, very jammy but still fundamentally an Ardbeg smoky thing. Jamshed it is not.

Was going to flip it for profit, but I prefer drinking it rather than hoarding cash!

I sat down with an inch of it and my son came up with his Nintendo Switch demanding I help him with a level he's stuck on.
One sniff of the Blaaack and he was off. "Daddy, your whisky drink smells like a wet bonfire. I hate it! ."
Memo to self: if you want a bit of peace and quiet...

It was available on a few German and Netherlands-based retailers' websites, but quickly sold out. In terms of a UK release, late June/early July apparently https://www.tyndrumwhisky.com/latest-whisky

One I dug out the back of a cupboard. If stashed it away a few years ago and forgot about it.

Whiskey mind, not whisky.

Another core range release, so even though I'm eager to get my hands on some I'll not be fretting over missing the first batch seen online.
It appears to have potentially a lot more going for it than the An Oa release of a couple of years ago, and I wonder if this will survive in the range if Wee Beastie gets rave reviews and is a strong seller?

I had a bottle of An Oa but thought it was average - much prefer the 10 or any Laphroaig apart from the 10....

I got a bottle of Corrycrecken at Xmas and that was / is fabulous. fingers crossed the wee beastie is great
