Yeah, that's the one, £70, wow that must have been some order... we are usually under £30 for two adults and two kids, admittedly more if either of us actually have fish ??
Yeah, if I remember correctly, 4 fish suppers and you're already almost at 40 sheets, add mushy peas for everyone, a couple of single haggis to share (we're on holiday, don't get it down in exile in Berkshire, so what the hell!), some sides off the specials board and a few tins of drink and there you go. Soon adds up. Top scran, though. Will be back.Bannock said:

Either you have very small appetites or enjoy the taste of pets! not sure how any hygiene rating passing indian can feed 2 for 15 quid each...
no showing off in by the 2nd poster at all. i dont think you have a realistic grasp of the cost of indian/chinese.
I have to say my prices for an Indian tend to be closer to AndyA700.no showing off in by the 2nd poster at all. i dont think you have a realistic grasp of the cost of indian/chinese.
A starter will be £5-£7, a main will be £8-£10 and a couple of naan will be £3-£5. Most times me and Mrs C would share a main. Even when we want to go our own way I think we'd be struggling to pay more than £25 a head and it's almost always closer to £15
We're a family of 4 adults, and we have a takeaway every Saturday, although only 3 of us partake. (I use the opportunity to eat something healthy, and will have a salad of some description).
So, for 3 adults, fish and chips £33, Indian £35, Chinese £28, Kebabs £28, McDonalds, £23, KFC £23. Pizza varies hugely depending on where we go and special offers available, anything from £10 to £30.
London suburbs.

i found that astounding! this is my go to indian when in the area: pakwaan.co.uk/menu (apart from dishoom which doesnt really count), i'm not so keen on indian food usually and often don't fancy it but this is very nice ( i appreciate its a restaurant that does takeaway as was my chinese), portions are tiny and its very pricey so very rare actually get food from there as im not a company director, but wouldn't really fancy most places, unless after friday beers down brick lane, when all bets are off...but still the others i have tried, that are properly takeaway'y, mostly in edinburgh, the mains have never been shareable...i know i'm greedy but still...
as for the chinese yes i was shocked it was over 60 quid, but the aim was it would do for lunch saturday and soaking up football beers - had it been the expected 45-50quid for 2 meals effectively (as the portions used to be large for the mains), wouldn't really be too bad.
point to note i'm quite large currently (disgustingly 16.5st) and a pig always...
The Chinese we order from is around £7.50 for a main course (they used to include chips or boiled rice in the price of said main, but now it's 70p extra for either).
A starter such as springs rolls or wontons is around £5, spare ribs £8.
So a meal for the 2 of us comes to about £28.00.
Looking back as previous orders, Start of 2019 : Special Foo Young & Chip was £6.20. Now it's £8.40. So that's 35% increase in 4 years.

Sanam is a quite well-known place on Wilmslow Road and the menu below is eat-in prices
https://www.sanamsweets.com/restaurants/rusholme/r...
I had a look at the menu you linked to, that looks a bit more upmarket than the places we normally go to, It's probably more akin to Akbar's or EastZEast in Manchester.
p.s Indian takeaway prices (IME) also depend on how much local competition there is.

I'm in Kent and rarely can find a curryhouse for less than £50 per head when drink is factored in, the portions are noticeably smaller these days so can't share mains anymore.
Fish and chips for £20 per head is still good value for money imo.
Last month went to a 'cheap' fusion hipster type of Indian in Kent, the quality of food wasn't that great yet only saved perhaps a fiver per head when compared to going to a nicer establishment, pre pandemic that difference would easily be over ten pounds.
Portion size was tiny so ended up having two mains whereas in a proper curry house the portions would have been larger so overall better value for money.
Edit: found the bill
Why are you now adding in the cost of alcohol to the food? That's further confusing the price of the food. We are really talking about takeaway prices too. Fish and chips for £20 per head is still good value for money imo.

There is three bottles of wine that bill accounting for £57.
The bill says there are four people being served. £26 each for the food and restaurant service isn't bad.
Took my wife and Dort v2 for a curry on Sat night.
Removing alcohol, our bill for 3 was €99 (€115 incl 1 Cobra and 1 w.wine. Dort v2 didn't drink any alcohol.)
There was enough food left over from 1 main course each to takeaway for another night's dinner.

Anyone in need of respite in North/Mid Devon can find a very fine chip shop in North Tawton at Graylings, 10 pounds for cod, chips and a curry sauce, the last time I was there it was top notch, some nice roads as well.
There's a Graylings in Fremington (near Barnstaple) too. It's very good, but not sure if it worth travelling too far for.FiF said:
I too am staggered by the prices in Indian food being mentioned.
To try and get fair comparison for 1 pers.
Our regular chippy, 1x Cod, 1x med chips, bread roll £10.30
Our regular Indian, 1 x Chicken Jaipur, 1 × Pilau rice, 1 x Naan 12.50, that's eat in prices too. 15% off if takeaway. So 12.50 becomes £10.62.
Apologies for quoting myself but to continue this theme in showing a different situation to the crackers prices being quoted. To try and get fair comparison for 1 pers.

Best Chinese restaurant in the area, no question the best. Slightly different approach this time with order for 3 and divided to get a single person price.
Regular order for 3, S&S chicken £10.50, Char Siu pork, £10.50, stir fry 3 delicious, £11.90, Yung Chow F rice £9, Prawn crackers, free. Those prices are sit in, = 41.90, ie 13.98 pp, takeaway -20% = £11.17 pp.
Plus often we will have just two out of those three mains as otherwise it's just too much food and some is wasted.
So £60 for a single person takeaway? one born every minute. Unless it's that there London pricing.

i was abandoned for the weekend so treated my self to a chinese from the 'best' (i say best but theres no such thing really, they all seem to do one dish well and others not so well, and this one doesn't seem to have hairs in it...like the closest one does) 'normal' chinese(it has a eat in area and is fine if you like being shouted at by waiters/waitresses, but not the fancy towie end of the market level chinese that also exist here) that do takeout in town, with the intention of having leftovers next day for lunch (and being a fat bstad currently). i had:
salt and chilli prawn (about 5 king prawns)
prawn dumplings (3 v small dumplings)
veg spring roll (4 mini ones)
prawn toast
Singapore noodles
chicken chow mein
egg fried rice
the online menu i ordered from (you have to call and collect yourself) had no prices on and i haven't tried it in a year at least, and it came to over 60 quid.
which i found quite shocking (i didnt ask on the phone how much) i turned up and paid but asked for my receipt but only got the credit card one, not itemised, so costs are rocketing, yet despite that was packed inside and 3 folk before me collecting takeout as i was waiting for mine...
portions of the mains was in smaller plastic tubs than usual too. i would have expected it to be around 50 quid at most.
to make things worse it was mostly rank, apart from the starters... rather than warming up for saturday lunch the mains mostly ended up in the field for the foxes and other vermin to nosh on. thats throwing money away...i wont be going back for a while.
I live in London and don't get takeaways often but you could get roast duck, crispy belly pork or char siu & rice for £10, or two meat combo & rice £11 or 3 meat combo & rice £12 in China Town or Queensway, some places may even give a 10% discount if paying cash.no showing off in by the 2nd poster at all. i dont think you have a realistic grasp of the cost of indian/chinese.

quarter duck is 12 quid half is 23 (with pancakes)!! this is provinces outside london, i would question the food standards of anything less than that.Gassing Station | Food, Drink & Restaurants | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
