Agreed. Looks perfectly passable.

It might be lacking a bit of a crust, but you're not getting loads of flavour into a fillet anyway.

First visit to a proper restaurant in Chicago for over a year. Pretty reasonable for a 7 course at a Michelin place. It just not something I've ever been able to recreate at home. I think the China makes a big difference. Well that and cooking talent.

What else did you have aside from that tiny appetiser?

Do they not have Nandos over there? hehe

Ah, Rules. Heck of a place.

It's like being transported back 50-60 years, both good and bad!
Yeah its got that 1930s vibe thats for sure. I liked it. Mrs SLR really enjoyed it too.
I will be going back even if it is a 200+ mile round trip!

The chocolate and hazelnut fondant is worth that trip alone

I'm more of a Quality Chop House guy, to be honest. But Rules is definitely an experience worth trying.

Dinner on the ship last night. We are 'stress testing' venues prior to getting back to having passengers on board. The entertainment department was required to go and have a very good dinner for free:

Salmon and caviar:

I also had escargot, then on to main course, fillet mignon with truffle-infused mashed potato and asparagus:

Finished up with chocolate praline tart:

Haha, yeah....

Actually, we were docked in Miami.

Tasted pretty damn good though.

Things started off okay...

Pulled pork (made a day ago) moulded into patties, scotch bonnet and spring onion mayo, pickled veg and chillis, chilli butter with extra habanero sauce, a bit of salad and toasted buns...

Looks tasty...? (i'm definitely no photographer or food stylist)

It was vile. I had two mouthfuls of the pork "burger" before resigning to a single vegetable dinner.

Individually everything was fine but the texture of the pork was really not for me. I was surprised as I really wasn't expecting the end result. Mrs21 and the Jnrs loved it.

Lesson learned.

DIY night, lamb kebabs, spinach sauce, mint and garlic yogurt, pickled veg and coriander with cos lettuce and (shamefully) shop bought pittas and chips.

Promise to do better tomorrow... 5 day sour dough!

It almost looks like a pastiche of a high-end restaurant. Which, I guess, is sort of what a cruise ship is supposed to be?

What was wrong with the texture?

Looks good in the pictures!
