My last post was about beer in Aldi.

This one is as well
(Bit worrying really)

Aldi are doing grimbergen blonde £1.29.
Going down great at 6.7%

Spent some time earlier looking for the frozen chips recommendations, gave up and asked a fellow dog walker who suggested the specially selected thick cut chips £1.95.
Some of those chips are huge! twice the size of a normal thick cut chip. However, similar cooking instructions 20-25 mins at 220C/200 fan.
I cooked them for the required time as suggested on the bag, and unsurprisingly, wasn't long enough.
Even after another 10 mins back in the oven at a higher temp, they still weren't cooked properly.
I was having the chips with their chilled scampi, nothing to write home about.

Also bought a tub of their specially selected icecream which I will be trying later on tonight/tomorrow.

I have found that their seasoned fries are the best (in a green/yellow bag I think)

Oven chips are best oven baked and accepted as a compromise. Why try to improve them.

If you are going to deep fry then I would say put in a bit more effort and peel and cut your own (although often easier to just pop to the chippy and get some instead unless you don't have one near).

I'm a triple cooked chipper as a rule but if I have to have oven chips they're far better fried. Have a chippy within a ten minute walk but unfortunately they're st.

Have you tried frying them?

PS. I don't "deep fry" as such - about 50mm of oil in a deep pan.

Not a new item, but the salted caramel dessert in the little glass jar has become a real vice. I don't like the double chocolate one: it's too sweet and too rich, and I'm not usually a big proponent of salted caramel stuff (won't plump for it in restaurants etc) but this is spot on. I wonder if the salt is perfectly balancing the sugar, or..?

Anyway, tiny spoonfuls cutting down through all the layers from top to bottom deliver wonderful flavour explosions. Recommened.

cant remember if anyone mentioned these but tried the frozen brisket burgers last night, oven cooked in 30 minutes ish from frozen and mighty impressed.

Yep, I grill them, but they are utterly delicious.

And since they stopped (in my branch anyway) the two packs of fresh posh burgers, opting only for the four-packs, these have become our go-to beefburgers.

Interesting, I'll have to give them a try.

I'd love to be able to find some of the halloumi fries but neither Aldi that I go to ever has them in stock.

seeded brioche bun, some garlic mayo and mature cheddar and hand cut some sweet potato wedges.

only issue is they're so juicy, my other half despite being warned managed to drip all over herself.

That's why I grill them, so I can stab and squeeze them during the latter stage of cooking.

Check out the packs of little cheesey burger tops in Aldi - they have a jalapeno one a blue cheese one and, maybe one other.

The jalapeno one is awesome! Once the burgers are cooked, I pop one on top of each burger, turn grill off, and just let the residual heat melt them.

Good amount of heat from the chillies and good strong cheese.

Haven't tried the blue cheese ones as... I don't like blue cheese biggrin

Thanks - will try it. Is it a honey beer or just has a honey taste? I normally find beers brewed with honey to be too sweet.

Disclaimer: not for consumption.

Painted some bits up with Cuprinol Garden Shades Urban Slate last year. Spotted the same ‘shade’ in Aldi for around £7 for 2.5l as wanted to paint a table and few bits, hoping it would ‘blend’. It’s an EXACT colour match as the £15 paint, only difference I can see is that the Aldi one is wood only, Cuprinol one suitable for Stone/brick.

The mrs brought some "Specially Selected" sausages home a bit back. They were absolutely bloody revolting - greasy, gristly, rancid tasting pieces of misery. Even worse than Asda's efforts.

Based on that experience Aldi meat products can jog right on.
