Pork pies are one of my favourite foods - especially with a hardboiled egg in the middle.

Not sure of anywhere near Stoke that does them, but the best ones I have had are from a pub in Bewdley, Worcestershire called the Great Western - they do a whole variety of different flavours of pork pie and they are exquisite.
Another pork pie fan, love them. Thanks for the Bewdley tip, I'm not too far from there so will have to check it out at some point or another.
If you're not far then Nigel is worth a visit

Closed his shop on Stourport High Street now but still making cracking pies.

Looks like the easiest way to cut, just don't think I'd be impressed with the uneven spread of mustard, unless you can always fit a bit from the middle in ya mouth,

Pork pie's are such a guilty pleasure of mine, I like the deli ones from sainsbury's, they've gone up by 10p in the last couple of months though, not happy.
I hear you on the uneven spread, they were quite small pies (they sold/sell different sizes) so you were guaranteed some mustard content per bite.

On the subject of guilty pleasures in relation to savory snacks, black pudding scotch eggs are mine!
Hmm, I dunno...there's something to be said for uneven spread. Keeps every mouthful a bit different. You wouldn't blend your roast dinner so every mouthful tastes the same.

They're terrible pork pies from most of the supermarkets. You really need a quality version, like those from Melton Mowbray.

Pie lovers.....If you're travelling on the M6 any time stop off at Tebay Services and visit the farm shop. Trust me, you won't regret it.

I don't mind the occasional one, but only eat it cold.

Some say, ketchup goes well with a pork pie?
That is the work of Satan. Ketchup with Pork Pie! Anathema!

Mustard.

Pork Pie should be eaten at room temperature.

That is all. smile
Ketchup and English mustard for me.
Piccalilli for me - when I'm allowed a PP. I mentioned that we hadn't had one for a while - we meaning me. My dearly beloved gave me the 'look' and said, "You're slimming...!"

Isn't that a Gala Pie?

Anyways, Morrisons do a good Gala/Pork Pie and sell it by the slice, definitely worth a try before you go all Artisan Hipster and end up paying £6 for one, it's sold as a slice about the size of a slice of bread and you can tell them how thick you want it cut.

They can also order you a whole Pie in, you know for "parties" or something, it's about the size of one and a half loves of bread and weighs a ton. I used to take one over to the lads in Spain when I visited. Used to cost under £20 for an entire one, bloody lovely.

In my mind the Melton Mowbray is a thing of beauty! I'm working in Darlington at the moment and rather peculiarly they heat them up and eat them with mashed potatoes!

Yes, that's a Gala Pie. It's not a Pork Pie (as in Melton Mowbray terminology) - and a PP does not come in slices !!

Yes. I especially like the gelatin between the meat and crust.

I'm a porkie lover, and the cheapest nastiest porkies are the best.

Specifically supermarket jobbies, none of that butchers shop snobbery thank you very much.

Sorry, whoever came up with Tesco's version of a PP needs to be locked away for a very long time. I hate to think what harm they might be doing to people over the longer term !

I'm with you on the indigestion, haha laugh

No, Tesco/Asda/Morrisons value porkies are the best, you need lips, gristle and aholes to get the proper texture and flavour.

Skipton is quite good for pork pies.
The shop by the bridge?

If you are in that direction, Lishmans in Ilkley and Weegmans in Otley are both excellent.
