For those enjoying a Reuben sandwich and various iterations I would recommend the Brass Rail at Selfridges. It’s not cheap but compared to something like Five Guys burgers it’s great value.
I had the pastrami at the brass rail the other day, the serving was PATHETIC.

I would suggest going to either Rubens further up baker street and get it there, (I went a few days later and got salt beef, good serving) OR to any of the branches of https://www.tonguebrisket.com/ (the original owner set up the brass rail)

Bedt I’ve had was a corned beef & mustard sandwich from Katz Diner in New York but it cost $27 !!!

Done that an it’s very good.

Still think a decent club sandwich eclipses it, three slices of lightly toasted bread, sliced boiled egg, chicken, bacon, mayo.

A few months back I had the most awesome steak sandwich and at the Eagle in Farringdon, was the size of my head but so good I had to finish it.

From Reubens to Saltimbocca, with Chivito along the way, to cheese and bovril, peanut butter and cucumber, and the humble crisp sandwich. What a wonderful melting pot PH is!

Chip butty, white bread, proper butter.

Haven’t had one for years frown
And people wonder why British food has a bad reputation...
A nice roast dinner or a cottage pie on a winter's evening would, personally speaking, sit better than a curry, or some Italian / flavour explosion Thai etc food.

IMO there's the comfort aspect to certain simple dishes, which extends to things like a humble sandwich that 'hits the spot' and is easy to enjoy and savour thanks to the simplicity of it and its filling. E,g, a chip butty.

Additionally, craving something, having not having had it in ages, makes it taste better.

On that note, an egg mayo is my default sandwich of choice!

Another vote for salt beef bagel from the place at the top of Brick Lane. You won't regret it.

Also a good bahn mi is a fine thing.

A quick and tasty wfh lunch is the fish finger sarnie I sometime make for myself. 2 or 3 fish fingers in a small flatbread, dollop of decent horseradish from the Polski sklep, Dijon mustard and rocket.

I do like to make a posh Filet o Fish for lunch.

Fish fingers done in air fryer then a slice of cheese on top. Brioche bun in the microwave to steam for 20 secs. Add a hefty dollop of tartare sauce and you got a real delight.

YES!

Ok admittedly I've never been and had one from the source but I love a Banh Mi. Used to make do with the one Eat used to do years ago which was a decent interpretation of it.

If anyone wants an amazing authentic lunchtime Banh Mi in London (near Liverpool Street), there's a French-Vietnamese chap that started out selling them from a bicycle trailer outside the Army Reserve Centre in Clifton Street, now upgraded to a pink van. Banh Mi and Sons

Cool. What's great is that when you order he cooks your filling from the fridge on the griddle, nothing is standing around. Means a short wait, but it's worth it
