So where to buy Hendricks, other than online?
On the topic, G&T is definitely not exclusively a "woman's" drink, though I don't see why the ladies shouldn't drink it. My grandfather (before he died) used to live on the stuff - a habit he picked up in the 1930s when he was a cowboy in Brazil - with a gun and everything!
Apparently the quinine in the tonic water keeps mosquitos away, and the gin gets you pissed.

Doesn't keep the mossies away but it is made from 'Jesuit's Bark' from the Chinchona tree that grew on the western slopes of the Andes and which was used as a cure for malaria. In the 1800's the British government sent a botanist on a secret mission to South America to steal some seeds from this miraculous tree so that they could use its bark as a medicine to protect Englishmen as they built the Empire. Crafty lot, the British in those days. Apparently the quinine in the tonic water keeps mosquitos away, and the gin gets you pissed.
It is perceived a womans drink in places.
Not being much of a beer drinker I asked for a G&T in a pub in the Australian outback. The locals stopped their conversation and the Barmaid laughed at me & asked if I wanted a straw. (Judging by the look of the little bottle of tonic I got, they didn't serve many)
(I had a similar experience asking for ½ shandy in a working mans pub for a girlfriend, conversation stopped and a regular, looking round, says "who the fk asked for a ½ shandy")

Gin and Tonic.
Desperately civilised. But one does need to make it a "manly" one (as a good friend says...). This is achieved by no less than a fifty/fifty mix of gin to tonic. Then add the ice and a slice.
I can attest that too many of those whilst cooking are not a good idea.
+1. Although the slice really should be lime!Desperately civilised. But one does need to make it a "manly" one (as a good friend says...). This is achieved by no less than a fifty/fifty mix of gin to tonic. Then add the ice and a slice.

Years ago I had a work colleague who used to drink gin and water - yes , water not tonic water. I've never met anyone since who does the same. Anyone out there in to G&W?
