Mate came to stay and brought this. £40 in Lidl apparently. Really rather unpleasant.

The Lakes Distillery Quarterfoil buyers were treated to an early access to their whiskey makers edition this morning, shipping this month.

I mean no offence by this, but what is the point of such a big collection?
Will you drink it?
Please don't think I'm insulting you, but why not have 6 bottles on the go and then drink it.
If you get down to 3 bottles, then treat yourself.

I get given a lot of whisky, so I make this my day-to-day tipple and spoil myself with the occasional £100+ bottle from my own pocket, but there's only 6-8 bottles on the go at one time.

Anyhow, it's your business and I'm not trying to make trouble.

I have 215 bottles - all open and being drunk by myself and friends on a regular basis. I do whisky presentations for my close friends when we get through a significant number of small samples accompanied by food. I have at least 1 bottle from every established Scottish distillery and most of the new releases from young distilleries. My only missing one is Daftmill.

A lot of people have similar as the prices keep on going up, so it's made a lot of sense to have more bottles saved up from earlier when things were cheaper. Lots of others have more bottles open than 6 too, depending what they feel like at the time.

Remember when Macallan Folio 1s hit £8k at auction not very long ago (Podie, where are you)?. Seemed crazy. It is crazy. Yeah, should've bought one to flip. Oof.

When will the market pop? Will it pop? Strange times.

Most collections are subjectively pointless.

I have more cars than I can drive at once and more watches and trainers than an octopus would need.

This guy has more whisky than he can drink in his remaining lifetime, but I'm sure he'll have fun trying.

Some of them will no doubt be appreciating assets as well.

I did a tasting event with them and Paul John. Interesting theories given the short ageing processes but I wasn't that enamoured by any of them.

I've tried 2 John Pauls ... one was ok but nothing special and I didn't like the "Nirvana" at all (it was a free sample from Master or Malt).

I've also had 2 Amrut's - of which the Fusion is fabulous.

£20 delivered on prime, can't be bad for supine' whisky?
Thanks for that. I'm sipping now. It's OK, but I'm not surprised they're selling it cheap, it has more than a hint of The Bells about it imo, like a mass market blended. It is warming though and the Sherry helps it, I'm not grumbling, but glad it was only twenty quid.

Edited because a couple of glasses in and it's really only fit for mixing. Ginger ale, ice and lime perhaps.

That's a shame, I picked up a bottle myself. I didn't find the two wine cask finishes that were on offer last month too bad at all (against what was expected).
Post curry and a bottle of beer, this is nothing like Bells. I wouldn't say it's anything special and it has a strong reek of caramel to it, a little too strong scratchchin

It is what it is, watered down to 40%, chill filtered and a bit of caramel colouring but way more interesting than much else at £20-22 when on offer.

To my taste, not quite as good as the bargain basement Glen Moray core range in the £20-29 range but good enough. At full price, it's without a doubt trying to look like something it isn't and not worth buying.
I've finished mine now. I've been mixing it with supermarket Sherry in a tall glass drunk

Recently bought this Islay Collection Gift Pack at auction. Been looking for a while as I have a signed print of the original illustration. Makes a very nice collectors item.

wasn't really commenting on the quality of the product as such... more that they also go on about this idea of the hot humid climate turning a 5 y.o. whisky into a 25 y.o.

It does for sure speed up the aging - just you don't get the same oxygenation process. Same as some of the Australian whiskies, although they mostly make the mistake (IMO) of combining hot climate with small casks - and so become overwooded. I have quite a few friends who are big fans of Amrut and Kavalan in particular.

A good whisky loving mate absolutely swears by this Aussie stuff;

https://www.houseofmalt.co.uk/product-category/wor...

We both had a sample of one of theirs from maybe 3 or 4 years ago and it was lovely and he's jumped on them. Ben, the owner of the above store/website always recommends them too-I need to try more I think
