Oh that is weird!

I find it thin, a bit artificial, a bit sugary and really a bit dull. Certainly not worth that money imho. I was so disappointed with it I had virtually written off the distillery (see the first few pages of this thread!) But the 15 and 18 changed my mind.

That Glendronach is great and the Benrinnes is even better. Notes on my blog this week I reckon. I'm running out of whiskies for the number of days so need to start visiting more bars, more distilleries and blagging more freebies... wink

I have just acquired The Naked Grouse. If I judged it from it's glass bottle, wooden topped cork (expensive one too), it should be a belter.

The collection so far: click here

I received my first bottle of whiskey a few weeks ago. A bottle of Jack Daniels for my 33rd birthday.

It certainly won't be my last. smile

Anyone had Benrinnes before? I tried it for the first time last night and was pretty impressed! It was a 15yo Flora & fauna (the same range as the 16yo Mortlach, Strathmill, Pittyvaich etc)

I did last night!

In short, good grief its good. I could seriously do some damage to my liver with it. I had a 4am start so just a sample but more tonight when I get home.

I don't have the refined palette of some but it has layers of complexity as well as an inviting noise. If I was going to score it based on how I judge beer, it would be pretty darn near the top.

Possibly my favourite out of my lot and past lot too.

Go on, you know you want to!

I've just given the Mellow Corn another bash. Geez.
It's like spirit with oil in it.
Maybe I need to be chewing a big mouthful of tobacco and driving a pickup in Hazzard County to enjoy it?

Oh well. It's good to try these things!

I'd quite agree with you there, I've a bottle of Georgia Moon which is a corn whiskey sold in a jar to mimic the classic moonshine; it is awful and I agree its very oily. Strangely however there is a big resurgence in America at the moment for "white dog" or un-aged spirit being sold by certain distilleries, buffalo trace for example have some small 375ml bottles selling for more than a 750ml bottle of the aged spirit!

Might see if I can nab a dram of it somewhere.

I was on Tamdhu last night, such a shame the distillery has closed because it's good whisky. Never that popular though as a single malt, most of it went into grouse.

I've bought 4 single-cask Glendronachs from my mate, awfully tempted to buy some more...

White dog is popular in cocktails, especially since vodka has become un-trendy after a decade of bling-bling super expensive brands endorsed by celebrities.

Some moonshines are pretty good - real 100% corn whiskies, applejacks etc. Most stuff is like industrial alcohol though.

As some may have guessed I was a bit pissed last night... 2/3 of a bottle of Glenmorangie and no dinner silly

Anyway, I can report that it's really good, far better than I remembered (even when sober).

Anyone else got / tried the Balcones Baby Blue - about £45. Butterscotch. Quite a nice drink.

This thread has spoiled me. In recent weeks I've shelled out for a standard Laphroaig and standard Ardbeg, and they seemed rubbish.

I need to start doing more overtime!
