Going back to the roots of this thread, here are some, really crappy iphone pics of my collection after 14 months of starting to actually like whisky smile

Hey, now that's high praise coming from you smile I think it works out at 4 or so bottles a month.

There are a few more on the other room, but the other half doesn't like the bottles, so they are hidden.

I didn't mean for that to sound sarcastic, i just meant considering the size of your collection.

Btw, Glenfiddich 15 & Monkey shoulder tonight. I the 15 was longer...

This thread has spoiled me. In recent weeks I've shelled out for a standard Laphroaig and standard Ardbeg, and they seemed rubbish.

I need to start doing more overtime!
i bought a litre of ardbeg10 coming through duty free last week. haven't had it before but it draws favourable comments here and they didn't stock lagavulin.

it's ok, but in small doses, i couldn't stay on it all night. love the deep peaty/smoke flavour but the saltiness is too much. so much so i wasn't at all bothered when i found my mate mixing it....

with red bull!

hehe I didn't think you were being sarcastic!

The Glenfiddich 15 is a real star, I really want to get a bottle of the solera-strength stuff, only available from the still though. I only live 20 miles away, I really should get up there.

If I lived that close, there would be trouble. Luckily, I couldn't be further away.

The solera-strenght 15 sounds great, how much is it?

Also, I’m pretty tempted with the "Shackleton's Whisky - Mackinlay's Rare Old Highland Malt", but at £100, it seems a little steep.

its quite expensive vs the regular stuff - about £65 i think? Then again you get to bottle it yourself straight from the cask.

Nat, what do you think of Eagle Rare?

It's fantastically easy to drink, and a warm caramel flavour, and quite sweet. Silly cheap in the US too.

I hate the bottle though, way to tall!

I haven't tried it but a friend whose judgement I trust said he didn't think it was worth the money.

Beautifully presented but with the number they released I can't imagine it ever becoming hugely valuable...

I don't think so. I was lucky and got mine from JFK. I wish they'd just release them properly.

Has anyone tried Glenmorangie Astar? I picked up a bottle coming through Dubai duty free and have to say it is minging. I think I paid £85 for the bottle and it is rubbish. My dad is a big whiskey fan and even he turned his nose up. I could seriously believe that the bottle is 'faulty' it is that bad!

On another note I got a bottle of a Signature whiskey from my local off-licence which is absolutely stunning. £35 for a 12 year old bottled at the caol ila distillery. The guy told me they buy individual barrels of bigger distillers and sell them off. Anyone heard of them?

I've got a couple of signature bottles, they are good - but generally slightly more expensive than the distillery counterpart for a younger bottling (around 8y.o. usually?)

if you think you have a dodgy bottle, you can send it back - the odd ones does come out wrong. Far less common than corked wine though!

Awesome! Care to do a horizontal tasting guest-spot on my blog?! You'd be doing me a favour actually, I'm on a long weekend and may struggle to get a dram every night!

It was a neighbours funeral today. So it had to be my pic of the day.

So it was out with the 18 year old Glenfiddich to toast him on his way.

Sorry to hear about you neighbour, but an excellent choice of drink to say farewell with, top 5 for me.
