8kg brisket, 24 hour cook last weekend. Used whisky barrel off cuts for the smoke.

Lovely smoke ring on that!

Where does everyone get their BBQ tools from?

I'm after something like this, that won't fall apart at the sight of a burger:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BR9ZZZYR
The Weber and Napoleon tools I've bought have been noticeably more sturdy than cheap crap I've bought over the years, particularly tongs and burger flippers.

Depends what your budget is and what you're cooking. I'd go for fewer better tools than a 7 in 1 pack.

I bought this set recently for my place in Spain, mainly because I wanted the sharp edged flipper.
https://www.thebarbecuestore.es/epages/62082927.sf...

I prefer these tongs from Weber though https://www.weber.com/GB/en/accessories/accessorie...

And for cleaning the grate I swear by these https://www.weber.com/GB/en/accessories/accessorie...

Not sure a basting brush needs to be so swish, but I do like the Weber stainless steel one that has been discontinued, but a copy is available https://www.riversidegardencentre.co.uk/weber-styl...

Please don't use a steel wire cleaning brush - there have been a fair number of deaths due to bits getting stuck on the grill, then into food - finally puncturing bowels.

Nothing needed beyond a ball of scrunched up aluminium foil and heat.

I've heard that - is it folklore?

I'm happy that it's an extremely low risk, for me, on my grill.

I suspect the pierced guts thing is complete hyperbole, but my Portuguese pals use a half lemon (or several) to wipe over and clean the whole thing. Works well.

Or half an onion it we want to get technical..

Still prefer the blow torch… it’s somewhat refreshing blasting the crap on the grills..

Great thread by the way just found it.. I’ll try and drop a few cooks in..

Yep, for me, less is more in terms of cleaning the grill, otherwise you end up destroying them. Plus using a little oil on a piece of kitchen towel and wiping down means less gets stuck on the grill. Of course I'm coming from a charcoal barbecue PoV, bit different to gas, etc..

Contentious topic biggrin.

For gas, I heat it up then use the wire brush to scrub it down.

For charcoal, it's far easier, just needs a light rub with whatever is to hand. Gas is st so doesn't get that hot - thanks Weber, your BBQs are st biggrin.

I just don't put food on it for the first 10 mins, I'm still alive. I don't clean at the 'end of the season' either.

I agree to an extent, my 'brilliant' gas Weber just doesn't get hot enough to properly sear a steak. Perfectly good for all other BBQ requirements, but not so much for my high expectations of my steak cooking.

I find with gas it needs a clean if used enough as the fat doesn't burn off below the grill so builds up until it catches fire rofl. On my expensive st webber anyway tongue out.

I only use gas when I'm cooking a couple of snags, bacon etc for breakfast as it seems a waste of charcoal othwise. This year I've lowered my charcoal threshold and am using the Kamado a lot more.

Fitted a hinge to my Weber 57cm One Touch today, quite impressed with it. Has a quick release pin for when I want to remove the lid and fit the OnlyFire rotisserie ring. Never was a fan of the lid holder I had been using..

I asked this on the previous page and was pointed towards decent offers on Big K at Morrisons and Amazon.

Definitely not folklore - https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27215721/

There was a really serious example a few years ago with one of the regular contributors to a large UK based Facebook group too.

Ultimately when there are cheaper, easier and better options out there, it just seems daft to use one.

My local Morrisons had bags of Big K a couple of weeks ago but I wasn't in a position to buy any that day, and they haven't had any since, I keep checking through the week.
