Duck Pie (ie wellington) from Game Bird in St James.

Very very highly recommended. Perfectly executed and great balance with the prosciutto and parsley cutting through the gaminess of the bird. Duck gravy was to die for.
Now that is something I’d like to try!

Crikey, I don't think I'd be able to make it past the first course.

Started the wife's 40th birthday weekend off with a trip to the local outlet village, then Miller and Carter's next door. Seemed rude not to have a T Bone.

Fantastic bit of meat I have to say, succulent and cooked to perfection, proper melt in the mouth stuff.

Served with the usual onion loaf, fries and half an iceberg with blue cheese dressing.

Suspect dinner might not be happening after that...

I am rarely impressed when eating out so for something to wow me it has to be really good. To find something that wows me in the most unexpected of places is always good.

Today I had lunch at Mrs Chews Chinese kitchen in grand central Birmingham whilst waiting for a train. It’s a food court type place with small seating areas for each vendor and has chain stuff like slim chickens and Nando’s.

What caught my eye were the Dan Dan noodles. If you have ever had them in China you will know they are a sichuan dish of noodles and mince in a “numbing sauce”. Anywhere I’ve tried them in the uk they have not really numbed at all.

Photo before stirred through the spicy sauce at the bottom and I have to say these were awesome. I didn’t want them to end and the numbed your face just like back in China. I could go another bowl now. The rest of the food was ok to good basic Chinese but these noodles wow. I have to work out how to do these at home

That half an iceberg can fk right off! I don’t mind salad but that’s just plain wrong.

Bodhi, where to start that looks absolutely sumptuous, that would do me for the day.

Craigjm, I hate that numbing spice with vengeance, to me it’s the Karaoke of the food world. Glad you enjoyed it though; I often think food is like music can take you back to a time/place.

Patio, looks rather good, could woof that down; what’s your dining partner done to upset you?

It’s not for everyone sure and everywhere I’ve ever seen that dish in the UK just load it with chilli and it’s not the same. This isn’t about mouth burn heat. It’s just good to find somewhere in the uk that does it well and in the most unexpected of places hehe
