ALDI & LIDL Food and Drink Worth Trying?
Discussion
Popped into Aldi on my way home yesterday and picked up some frikadellers for dinner. I wasn't expecting much, but they turned out to be rather nice and require minimal preparation (fried for 3 minutes, or microwave, I chose to fry them as I was already frying onions). I had them with semi-mashed potato and fried onion. I also cut the last 2 up and put them into sandwiches for my lunch today, very nice.
I also bought 4 cans of 'Shipsterns' bitter for £1.99. It's no 'Old Speckled Hen' but still very pleasant at 50p a can.

Went to Lidl last night and picked up their kangaroo steaks... thought it would be worth a laugh.
Also have diced wild boar for a goulash tomorrow.
Lets see how good it really is.
Both are excellent, as is their duckling and their "veal liver". Odd way to describe it, but nothing odd about the quality. Also have diced wild boar for a goulash tomorrow.

I am afraid that the Shipsterns' beer could never be described as pleasant.I also bought 4 cans of 'Shipsterns' bitter for £1.99. It's no 'Old Speckled Hen' but still very pleasant at 50p a can.
I've tried a few of the Lidl tinned soups and casseroles and find them too salty for me. That stuff is made to the Central European taste, where salt is considered one of your five-a-day.
Anything vaguely 'Oriental' / 'Indian' from Lidl is also a bit odd. It will have either pineapple chunks or raisins in.
