ALDI & LIDL Food and Drink Worth Trying?

I've been working my way through the Aldi mince pie range.
So far I've tried:
Blood orange and gin crumble top - sounded great, but disappointing in reality. 5/10 Cloying centre.
Salted caramel crumble top - pretty good. 7/10
Millionaires - best I've tried from Aldi this year, 8/10. Only just felt like a mince pie though.
I was disappointed to find that the Black Forest pies seem to have been dropped for this year, they were my favourite.
There are still several other varieties to try, including one with a frangipane top.
The local newspaper ran a syndicated piece on 'best supermarket mince pies' yesterday. So far I've tried:

I'm very much a home baker when it comes to mince pies but was sufficiently motivated by the piece to grab the 'top spot' variation today, together with the almond topped ones, which I always like (and tend to make my own of too!)

Notwithstanding that it's a different shaped bottle and entirely different label, the wine you tried was £3.99 - the wine I recommended was £6.99.It'd be magnanimous of you to delete the damning review^^ you left against my recommendation?

Away from the wine for a bit - my local Aldi seems to be drowning in these. Huge piles of them all over the store.
Not generally a fan of 'cheap chocolate' - but these moody Bountys are amazing. I'm sure theyve stirred in some depleted nuclear waste as a flavour enhancer (i.e. nothing natural) but the coconut-y bit knocks a regular Bounty outta tha park.

Having flounced last week, I went to a different Aldi, the one in the next town (Ashbourne) rather than the one at the end of the road. As different as chalk & cheese in so many ways (yet both are new stores). I got everything I couldn't get at my local store last week, plus several of the recommendations on the last few pages, wines, mince pies and the Romeo faux Bounty. A good experience and not an inkling of the Meldrew entering my brain. I'll be sticking with it I reckon.

i dont know whether the store manager gets to decide stock levels on certain items.
I have 2 within 5 miles and see the same issues fairly regularly.
one store is in a more affluent area and there are items there that sell out but are always in stock at the other.
Finger crossed the less affluent store has some of the seasonal ports and the belgian abbey beer.

Not teaching you to suck eggs - just a general statement: I do think that quite a few - even regular - customers still don't quite 'get' the layout format.I have 2 within 5 miles and see the same issues fairly regularly.

All the special and seasonal lines will be in the middle of the store which is half food and half non-food, rather than in their particular regular lines sections.
So the ports, beers and Aldi's stonking selection of premium wines for Christmas (£9.99 - £24.99!) are on a shelving unit by the other Crimbo foods.

Yeah i got a 40 year old over a week ago but since then they've had no seasonal port at any point so need to try my other local. All the special and seasonal lines will be in the middle of the store which is half food and half non-food, rather than in their particular regular lines sections.

For my store the central row of shelves nearest the checkout is always the seasonal alcohol/chocolates.

Both new builds, but so different.
Belper shares a car park with a B&M, and it's also used by many as a free car park for the town, the layout is tight too, so parking is not easy. I reckon more than half of the cars are not customers. Ashbourne is off a quiet A road well out of the town and is stand alone on site, no other commerces, the car park is the same size as Belper but almost empty as it only serves Aldi customers. When one drives a daft car, this is a big help.
Belper seems cramped, narrow aisles (barely three trolley widths), pallets of stock causing obstruction, (just like the Lidl at Ripley). Can't bloody move! Ashbourne seems to have much wider aisles (above four trolley widths) and less clutter.
Then there's the stocking levels and lines carried which is clearly on a different level. I found everything I wanted easily, only had to ask for one item and was taken to it, rather than "Antgotnon" x6.
I got the XO Brandy and there were two other Brandy lines as well, all three lines were two bottles wide and fully stocked front to back, compared to just one line one bottle wide (and just one bottle too) at Belper.
The A517 is a cracking drive out too.

Ripley Lidl is my favourite because of the bakery and Kielbasa and I prefer Lidl to Aldi.
Agreed the Belper carpark is a joke.
You are right about Belper. It’s convenient as Morrison’s bakery is rather good (you can’t leave without the 50p donuts!) but the car park is hell. I feel I can say this as I live in the area, but it’s full of either coffin dodgers or window lickers. Both of which give no ufcks about your car. I have been sat in the passenger seat of the wife’s car and had a woman open her door onto ours.
Ashbourne is a good 25 minute drive (my parents live in Hognaston) but as said, it’s a good drive. And a much better shop and pleasant experience. Plus you can nip over to M&S for the posh stuff.

Anyone else buying the 12 pack of Brooklyn IPA for £12. I really like it and Its £2 a can in the Co-Op. I was drinking the Goose Midway IPA but they seemed to have stopped that.
