I managed to get a taster 3cl of Convalmore 1977 36 year old. It was very nice indeed.

It's lovely. Surprisingly complex, but very smooth.

No smoke or peat, but heavily sherried. A bit like molasses in some ways.

Dangerously easy to drink (I rarely add water to anything though). At the same price point, the Balvenie 21 is also bloody lovely.

Thanks very much.

I bought the Dalmore 12 year old on Thursday. I felt the 15 was just to strong for me. Terrible I know!

I'm not a fan of the 15, but like the 12 and the 18.

This is smoother, but a stronger flavour.

Jura Origin tonight:

I must say Jura is not one I would myself, but never look a gift horse in the mouth. This expression seems more balanced on the overly caramel flavour I get from their others. It could do with some peat, but there is at least a slight hint of medicinal bitterness to it - the tcp flavour if you will.

I popped into a few of the whisky shops along the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, the prices were shocking! I guess they're just tourist traps, they did have a big selection though.

They are in keeping with the price of everything in the city! I don't mind paying for quality, and at least whisky is more or less guaranteed quality, but some things in Edinburgh are expensive but also ste.

How long do people bother keeping their boxes as I see a few in the pics, am I a heathen for just chucking them out!

Also has anyone thought of using a decanter, I saw a lovely triple set one at the bootsale and was tempted.

I too tend to chuck the boxes out. Tried Old Pulteney at the Edinburgh Whisky Experience and thought it was pretty good. In other news I must admit to having a blend and coke from the hotel minibar last night.

About 3 or 4 years ago it was £18 at full price. Somehow it's crept up to £28!

Tesco were selling it at £16 a bottle back in December, wish I had bought a lot more than I did!

Lovely stuff that, may pick some up if it is still down at £22.

Got suckered by the TWE mail shot and just made a cheeky purchase..

The new Glenlivet Guardians' Chapter / Exotic Expression which is apparently a "fruity and zesty dram"...

...and what is apparently a French market release - Aberlour 15 Year Old / Select Cask Reserve
