about 75p a pint (500 ml) here whistle

and that is expensive compared to the vodka...

  • I know not UK, but others have posted foreign prices already. I wouldn't recommend coming here just for the cheap beer, bit of a long journey to the back of beyond in Ukraine

I can't remember the exact price but a few years back I met some of my London friends and we ended up going to a club in Ladbroke Grove. Think it was called Cherry Grove or something similar. Anyway We were in the taxi and as we pulled up I told the guys you sort the fair and I'll get the first round in. They were very keen to take that deal which should have been a sign.

3 rum n cokes was the best part of £30?!?!?!

Not UK, but for comparison - Local Beer is around 50p a pint, something like Stella or Budweiser Budvar around £1.10 a pint.

The landlord of my local, in a small Kent market town, keeps very good ale and is fairly open with his negative feelings towards lager. Last year in an apparent attempt to discourage it's consumption, he priced Peroni at £4.90 a pint, which is quite a sting given the location. Still sells plenty of it though.

I suppose like many landlords, he's probably sick of hefty beer-tie costs. And when we have such a great real ale industry in this country, you can see why landlords look to make better deals with smaller suppliers. I downloaded the 'for sale' advert for a pub in my village at the end of last year (we have four, vying for the same relatively small market which means at least two are usually struggling). I knew that pub had struggled to make profit and the previous, popular landlord was being turfed out, but it wasn't surprising to see that it was a struggle to make cash at the pub when you looked at the cut the leisure company in charge wanted. I could see how, if you worked your arse off, you could maybe break even in terms of running costs but what would it leave to live on?

There's a place in Gerrards Cross called Deadwood or something like that, and two beers came to around £13.

At Quod in Oxford they brought draft beer in half pint glasses but charged what you'd expect to pay for a pint. I haven't been back so I don't know if it was just a mistake or whether they really are twice as expensive as everywhere else.
