It wasn’t quite aged enough for our taste but still had loads of flavour.

Actually had steak for the first time in a while last night - and it was simply sirloin from Budgens of all places.

I wasn’t expecting anything but wow - the Mrs did wonders with the cooking of it.

Going to have steak again today wink 2.

First time in America, had steak and eggs for breakfast, just because I could, it was on the diner menu!
The waitress did look at me as if I was a bit strange, and she may be right!!
I don’t know why... it’s a massively popular breakfast dish over there

I was in Australia and the exchange rate £1 = $1.8 meant the Wagyu beef was reasonably priced, so I thought why not.

I'll report back. They've given me some £8 off a £40 spend ... which means my steak is coming from there for the next couple of weeks.

Prompted by this post, I've just learned that beef can still be wagyu if grown outside Japan. I thought it was specifically a Japanese thing.

Every day's a school day.

Unfortunately though, this does mean its no guarantee of quality. Often "Wagyu" is so far from the real stuff its no better than any other decent steak. Pretty sure in Aus the wagyu is pure bred but in the States its definitely a cross.

This is why you see Wagyu burgers etc in Aldi et all.

I had this recently at Bobby Van’s just off Wall Street in NYC.

It is a ‘Filet Oscar’, which is a 16oz filet mignon topped with crab meat and spinach. It was outrageously good and as a lover of both seafood and steak the perfect dish for me. I scraped the crab and spinach off the top of the steak and it was like having a whole extra bonus dish!

Cost as much as a tank of petrol.

AFAIK Porterhouse is the American/Australian word for Sirloin.

If the cattle is bred/raised in Japan it's is Kobe, if bred/raised outside of Japan usually in Australia it is called Wagyu, which I first saw it on sale in Harrods.
