Did you use a specific type of wood or just any old gear?
In an ideal world I'd use silver birch or oak or beech, but at the moment I'm burning a load of sycamore which has pretty foul smoke to be honest but the steaks tasted fine. I would be very reluctant to use softwood, but the process is so fast maybe it wouldn't make much odds.
They key is to get the first at a stage where you have glowing coals before starting.

We have a burner that is pretty tall so I was thinking of making a removable shelf that could as a a grill or as somewhere to put a roasting tray.
Here's a simple one for you. Good for using up stuff left in the cupboard/fridge. It's roast chicken whole legs, with roast vegetables, herbs and ciabatta.
You roast the chicken and veg (tomatoes/onions/leeks/peppers/courgette/aubergine in this case) in a roasting tin with rosemary, thyme, oil and a few whole crushed garlic cloves. with ten minutes to go, tear up the ciabatta into decent size chunks put in a bowl with rapeseed oil (or olive) season, and add a good grate of Parmesan and stir.
Dot the bread in the roasting tin, ensuring it's nestled well into the veg. Give it a further 10 minutes on a high heat. The bottom of the ciabatta pieces soak up the juice in the pan, and the tops go lovely and crunchy.
Photo isn't the best, but you get the idea.

whatever you are doing the chicken could definitely do with something to make the skin more appealing. Did you just take it out the packet and put it straight into the oven? You roast the chicken and veg (tomatoes/onions/leeks/peppers/courgette/aubergine in this case) in a roasting tin with rosemary, thyme, oil and a few whole crushed garlic cloves. with ten minutes to go, tear up the ciabatta into decent size chunks put in a bowl with rapeseed oil (or olive) season, and add a good grate of Parmesan and stir.

Seaside dinner, pub doesn't do fish and chips, chip shop doesn't do booze! Buy from both and find a bench, combine!

Sunday treat. (whilst making chili at the same time for lunches)

Haven't had any pics to post for a while as I'm on a bit of a diet and food has been fairly plain.
Tonight was fish night though and when I bought the sea bass I couldn't resist the pot of mixed white and brown crab meat so ended up with this:
Pan fried sea bass with buttered steamed charlotte potatoes, steamed samphire and a crab, white wine, dill, lemon and creme fraiche sauce, it was lovely!
