I know I tend to sound a bit stupid but...

What vessel would you use for those quantities?!

I don't think I have a bucket big enough.
biggrinbiggrin
wellllllll.....

you could scale the recipe down orrrrrrrr.......

buy a BIG pot - doesn't have to be expensive either - i saw a 3-4 gallon pot at TK maxx for £20 or so - probably not the best quality , but you could make as much chili, soup or stew as you'd like hehe

See I think I'm after a big pot. Scaling down seems like too much hassle - and there wont be much to freeze either!

I will be making chilli this weekend, its lovely on jacket potatoes and idea for this cold snap we're going through.

The Wife bought me a 5.5 litre pot from Ikea last year. Can't remember what She paid for it but I thought it was too cheap therefore crap. I was wrong it's a great pot and very heavy. thumbup

PS. They are £28 now..............

Linky does not go straight to the pot - it's the grey one with stainless lid from the Favorit range.

I've picked up a pikey 5.5l one from Asda (although it feels decent enough) for £8 - its now my large meal making pot. If it lasts 6 months I'll be pleased.

Chopped toms are in chronically short supply in Sheffield - Sainsbury's either had horrifically expensive organic blah blah blah (over a quid a tin) or pikey basics ones. I went for the basics - they are actually quite good! Only difference I can see and taste is that they are all different sizes (not that I can taste that..)

Will also be making a lemon and chicken caserole (v nice with chickpeas or rice, tuscan bean soup, and a basic tomato sauce to freeze. That'll see us through exams and well into the big wide world. I love this bulk cooking lark!

Can't wait to get cooking biggrin

In my local Sainsburys you can buy the nice ones ie Napolina Chopped Tomatoes 4 x 400g for £1.79,

I would say you need to move south, but a bit OTT just to get cheaper tomatoes. Im going to start growing my own soon so will be even cheaper.

I think moving south is a very good idea.

I find chilli made with chilli powder is almost always too harsh. Not quite sure why, but it seems to scorch my lips, rather than the pleasant burn in my mouth I get using real chillis.

My chilli recipe FWIW:

1lb mince
1 onion
4 red chillis (including seeds)
2 tins kidney beans (the ones in chilli sauce are a good cheat too wink )
1 tin chopped tomatoes

Makes a medium (not hot by any strecth of the imagination) chilli which serves 2 people with healthy appetites biggrin
