I'm fairly sure a decent pint of lager was 99p in around 1985/86 in ye olde north west (annoyingly it then went up to £1.02). 300% rise in 10 years judging from some of the 1975 prices quoted.

What would the price be now with inflation?
£1.42 according to RPI or £2.13 using average earnings.

You could well be right. When I worked as a barman in the north west in 1985 Heineken was 87p a pint. I think Whitbread bitter was 76p and Mild slightly less.

I was working evenings in an M&B pub in Birmingham in 1975.

A pint of mild in the Lounge was 14p, Brew 11 bitter was a few pence more.

As I started drinking in 1982, Brains Bitter was 66 pence a pint.
When it got to £1 a pint , I was going to stop drinking laugh

You must know my favourite pub in the whole wide world - William IV near Shere? A pint there on Christmas Eve brings me great joy.
Going off topic a bit it must be over 50 years since I last saw it. 'Twas a time when keg beers were on the ascendant and proper English beers were struggling to survive. Country Pubs with fires were useful places to meet if the lights went out due to the rolling power cuts.

I started drinking in circa 99/2000

I remember a local club Saturday night advertising all drinks £2, which was more expensive than anywhere else, probably £1.50 - £1.75 a pint more typical.

Although this was also the era of binge drinking offers; £10 entry free drinks all night type things were common (limited by your ability to find barstaff)

One club near us was in the tabloids for a 1p a pint offer (soft drink and alcopops usual prices, of course).

More generally, the cost of a pint in a decent pub has increased disproportionately to buying a fee beers for home; Tax, utilities, min wage, pension contributions etc etc, not to mention lifestyle choices of later generations.

I rarely go out just for a beer now.
