Nope. You not heard of hair pie? Must be an Aussie thing...
Wasn't a term used down south... So maybe a Sydney thing.

There's a pub called the 'Cock and Pye' in Ipswich, which always made me hehe when I lived down there...

A Stanforths pork pie from Skipton please.
Is that the one near the castle, on the bridge, down the dip, across from the pub? That one?

Magnificently overated if it is.
I respect your opinion of their pies as it's a very personal thing but as the question was regarding *my* favourite pie and not "which pie pleases the masses" I'll stick with my first choice wink

I'm from Skipton but I've eaten a heck of a lot of pies on my travels, I still prefer the Stanforths even though you don't get as much meat as you used to. It's an honest pie, good pastry without being all lardy like a Melton and meat that looks like cooked pork not something you'd find in a Barbie play set. I'm always happy to find another nice pork pie though so feel free to recommend others I should try.

Out of interest what was it about my pie of choice that you disliked?
Sorry old chap, I did not mean it as a personal slight. And I too do not like melton mowbrays.

The pie I had did not contain enough jelly, was very overseasoned with white pepper, the meat was an insipid grey colour and the bottom of the pastry was soggy.

You can get some nice pork pies in Clitheroe.

I didn't take it personally sir, no problems there at all, the last thing I'm going to fall out with someone over is a pie smile (unless someone steals a pie from me)

You've described what I'd consider to be a nice pie to me there apart from the soggy bottom but I know a lot of people prefer more jelly and less of a pepper taste. For me the seasoning is one of the things I like about them.

My local butchers don't do very nice pies but they do offer an "extra jelly" option on them for people who like it that way.

I shall visit Clitheroe on a pie mission when I get chance - I keep meaning to start up a pork pie review website with a POI download for sat navs so you can hunt out ones that meet your particular taste.

I'm hungry now.

I used to make them.

They are delicious straight out of the oven, no jelly. Hmmmmmm

Apart from the obvious answer.... the next one

I bought something called an Oggie in Dolgellau last year, it was a massive cornish pastie type thing about the size of an A4 sheet, there were locals in there talking about wellies, it was a kosher Welsh place so they weren`t taking the mick......and it was raining.....bliss

A homemade pie from Christmas leftovers... turkey, gammon chunks, and smoked bacon pieces for the meat, and some pea's, carrot and a couple of potato pieces to balance out the flavours. All with a lovely homemade gravy to top up the filling.
Now then.............................yes

The sandwich shop I sometimes use at lunchtime is advertising a pie that has mushy peas inside it along with minced and onions, basically a layer of peas under the crust.

I haven't tried one, I'm unsure if I want to, it doesn't seem right.
