Anyone got one? I quite fancy one... Mate of mine rented a villa in Tuscany last summer which had one.

Any tips?

I was thinking of making one, my boss has a book about building barbecues and wood burning ovens. They don't look too hard to make. Amazon has a few books if you fancy a DIY approach.

Hugh F-W built one. I think it was the series where he was trying to teach idiots how to cook

I want to build one of these in France this summer so I'll be watching this thread with interest.

Suggestions on make/model/places to buy.

I might have a look at making one, I assume it's just going to be a smooth block of thin stone with brick "walls", a furnace below and some kind of chimney arrangement...

I'd like to try building one but it's quite a project. I've also thought about building a tandoor in the garden but excavating is not my thing.

James Martin has one, as does Jamie Oliver, but then money is no object, or rather it wasn't until the former attempted the Mile Miglia and failed miserably.

Surely there's a more simple way of building one?

I think if you just want to build a small one then yes, there are easier ways. A simple dome made from clay will work as a small basic oven.
