I'm familiar with Gaucho's and Hawksmoor (and probably slightly favour the former), but where else in London specialise in amazing steaks?

The ones mentioned are all similar in quality if you ask me (in a good way).

Also as good is the Tramshed
http://www.chickenandsteak.co.uk/

which has the added appeal of a massive Damien Hirst dead-cow-in-formaldehyde piece of art to make the place interesting.
Regardless of your opinion on that (which is probably the same as mine) it was far more impressive in the flesh than I would have imagined.

If you want beef - in London - check out the Dewks Brew and Que in Shoreditch.

They don't do steak, but their beef ribs are just incredible.

If you don't mind a bit of king crab on the side of your Nebraskan beef then try Beast - http://www.beastrestaurant.co.uk

They don't do steak,
Interesting recommendation tactic there.
Ill give it a go.

OP, try Wagamamas. They don't do steak but they do noodles. Have you considered noodles at all?

What about trying the Beef at Rules in Covent Garden - It's pretty damn special.

I love the atmosphere in there as well.

They do beef noodles.
Plus mine was a joke mocking you whereas yours was a serious response.

Its probably just me but I hate the idea of being made to sit with strangers. Particularly on an anniversary or similar.
It's fine if you are going for a cheap meal like Wagamamas or similar but not a proper dinner out.
Unless I am wrong and beast is cheap. I've never been but I assumed it wasn't as it's trendy.

I completely agree with you - in general. However this is one night out of 3 and the other two will give us some privacy. The reason for choosing Beast was to do something new for both of us, and it's conveniently close to where we're staying. It looks like it should be a memorable meal, prices look on a par with the others mentioned so far.

After 15 years and having me to herself for 3 days, maybe she will want some company anyway!

Hawksmoor is inconsistent - last visit called into Spitalfields late, with no reservation, and it was very good; time before that Air Street, which was very disappointing.

Actually I thought BSR response was funny. I got his joke, I am flummoxed why you are having a pop at him.
