Pub Food Quality? Who's had enough of this rubbish?
Discussion
I like the fact I can feed a family of 6 with reasonable food and a drink each for under £30. I also like the fact I can get much nicer food elsewhere if I'm just out with the wife.
There are however plenty of pubs I simply won't return to because their food is shocking - but people still buy it, so they still sell it. Market forces I guess.

What a odd question/statement.
Yes some cheap pubs have bad pub food
Some reasonable pubs have reasonable food
Some glastropubs have great food
Whats the problem?
Go to a better pub!

Just avoid the plastic menu chain pubs if you want decent food, there are still some good independents around.

Ask them to serve less of it and put it on a plank of wood.
I demand all of my food be served on the mummified tail of a platypus. It's the only way to really eat.lockhart flawse said:
It's a pub, not a restaurant. Problem is that they can no longer make money operating as pubs so many offer food, often causing considerable inconvenience to drinkers. But there's not much that we can do about it.
That's a good point actually. A few good pubs that started doing good food have been taken over by eaters rather than drinkers. When you are half cut anything will do. Nothing wrong with a pie to go with your pint.
I think that Gastro pubs tend to be the worst of all worlds. Pub atmosphere at restaurant prices with indifferent quality and service.
To be fair, I think that the majority of pubs and chains sell the quality of food and service that most of their customers want and expect most of the time.
We can and do prepare quality food at home, so when eating out, I am looking for exceptional quality food, great service in special surroundings, especially with ambient noise levels that can ensure that I can hear companions and staff easily.
The costs associated with this level will dictate that the menu price will inevitably be somewhat higher.

I wouldn't say food has changed, just more of the cheap stuff out there.
I'm more annoyed about eating off chopping boards all the time - really what's wrong with a plate.
Plus the whole gourmet burger thing. You can't get a cheap stty burger from your wholesaler, serve it up on a chopping board, stick chips in a small metal bucket and then claim its gourmet.
Nowadays we stick to cheap and cheerful chains to just fill a hole. Or go somewhere fancy which is renowned, am fed up of paying reasonably high prices for mediocre food I could replicate at home every night of the week.
