Many years ago I had a client who'd been in the Navy. For those not in the know, the officer's tipple is pink gin (you'll know all about that 'cos this is the food and drink thread).

So anyway, we go off to a backwater Suffolk pub for lunch and it goes like this:

Him: 'Pink gin please'

Suffolk barmaid: 'Eh?'

Him (trying to be helpful): 'Do you have Angostura Bitters?'

Suffolk barmaid: 'No, we only have Tolly'

hehe

Nope, it's poisonous in large quantities I believe!?
As well as being undrinkably bitter - you only need a few drops.

Yes indeed, it's a play on the barmaid never having heard of Angostura Bitters, and so thinking it was a kind of beer. Tolly Cobbold is a Suffolk brewer. She probably heard the question as 'Do you sell Angus Dura Bitter?'

We got there - phew!

yes - you will notice you dont have to be 18 to buy agnostura bitters (well, its not in the booze section and I dont think you would be ID'd on it!) even though it is IIRC 20% alcohol by volume.
44.7% actually - I just checked!

Looks like we've just found the next teen binge trend...

Smells nice - somewhere between cranberry concentrate and oil of cloves.
