Songs that make you switch radio stations
Discussion
Just for fun. I should have thought of it on Friday, really.
When at the computer I generally sit within reach of the DAB radio and I have Absolute, Absolute 80s, and Heart pre-set as generally not too annoying, and I switch every time they play something I don't like. So, this morning was Absolute 80s until Morrisey starting whining about something so now it is Heart. No doubt they won't last the day.
Anyone else do this? And if so what songs are guaranteed "switchers"?

Only one song makes me switch instantly, Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton, it reminds me of his only son falling to his death through the window and makes me feel dreadful.
There are many other songs that I really don't care for, ie 80's and 90's plastic rubbish and Rap but not always enough to walk across the room and hit the button.

Happy birthday or I just called to say I love you by Stevie Wonder. They are both beyond awful, but it's made so much worse because he used to be so great. How can the same bloke who wrote Living For The City and Mistra Know It All, and many other classics, produce such utter dirge. How can talent disappear to that extent?
at least with absolute you know they won't repeat the song you don't like. I know this, because some painters had absolute radio on in a house I was working on, and there was constant repetition of they guarantee not to repeat anything.
Personally I find it (radio) utterly soul crushing; introducing someone to a new band they fall in love with is one of lifes greatest pleasures for me, to have the opportunity to do it en masse yet squander it playing the same old st as every other radio station, same songs every day or even hour is a form of vandalism.

Anything by Sam Smith that gets played ad nauseam and most 90s dross that Heart also tends to repeat into submission for the sake of 'variety'.
Or any time Mark Wright is DJ'ing, any time a DJ mentions a pregnant celebrity, or asks me what I'm doing and to text in and tell them, or tells me to 'check out our Twitter page'.

Absolute don't repeat the same song in a day but they do use the same songs every day. We have a radio at work and I hate it, I'd rather work in silence.
I can't remember the last time I voluntarily listened to a radio; my music collection is at my fingertips, contains only stuff I like, has no cheesy 'presenter' and - most importantly - no ads. Why would I let someone else choose the tunes, a large chunk of which I'm certain not to like?

Have to agree 100% and don't forget Ebony & Ivory with Macca.Looks like there's a limit on the number of good choons in any person.
It makes you wonder what sort of tat Hendrix or Jim Morrison would be putting out these days.
Commercial radio is a bugbear of mine. I hate it with a passion. I think it's because I am into music and get a lot from it. The kind of music they play is always the safest of the safe, you will never be suprised by anything they play, ever.
Heart for example only seem to pick a new track up onto their playlist when it has been finally discarded by the likes of Radio 2. By that time it is deemed tame enough for Heart listeners to be exposed to, and boy, will they be exposed to it!
I wonder how many times a day Michael Jackson / Whitney Huston / Gary Barlow is inflicted on the willing sheeple. I need to take lie down now.

I second the above, anything by Sam Smith, (a dreary Credit Crunch version of Boy George). Anything by Ollie Murrs as well.
I also can't stand Heart FM, the same "middle of the road playlist" pitched at pre-menopausal women, "it's Raining Men," "Dancing Queen, " overplayed drivel, that could be found on any £9.99 compilation CD at Asda. Couple that with plastic presenters, and you get a countrywide annoyance.
A few years ago I had the displeasure of having to get a taxi to work every day for 5 months. Stuck listening to the cabbies radio, I could guarantee, pretty much every morning between 7:30 and 8:00, they would play that mind numbing "Give Me Everything tonight" song.
It's first thing in the morning, you are playing a banging, nauseating dance song about tonight. The wrong song to be playing of a morning, but every day it was there.
I did community radio for a good few years and I put a damn more though and variation into programmes than Heart ever do. The new Radio Essex station is far better in terms of variety.
