Epiphone electronics are completely dire, because it's all just cheap st. Crackly, noisy pots, the flimsiest input jacks and pickup selectors going and the wooliest, nastiest sounding pickups I've heard in their price range. There were a lot of things I didn't like about the Epiphone LP I owned, and the countless other Epiphones I've played over the years, and the poor quality electrical components are definitely the worst bit.
It is a shame, it is the only guitar I have ever had problems with. Once it is all replaced and some Gibson pickups are in they are totally different guitars, love mine

picked up my guitar for the first time in a long time this weekend - it was an 18th birthday present from my parents... it's an American standard Tele in Ash with a natural finish.
a few years ago now I sold what was my favourite guitar - a made in japan '62 tele with rosewood fretbroad, in sunburst, with white edge binding.
i've spent a lot of this weekend looking at guitars online.
so... where in the UK sells:
japanese teles
OR
tokais - I'm pretty interested in trying a breezysound. I live in germany and they haven't quite caught up with the internet here... few shops have decent info about what they stock or online-purchasing facilities.

Badlands in Brighton always carries a few Tokais. Graham is the guy running the show.

Just realised how cheap (compared to what they were) Gibson SGs have got:

I am extremely tempted to pull the trigger on one of these. Would mean selling a guitar, but I have always wanted one!

Just beautiful:

But I'm sure it couldn't compete with my Vigier, every guitar I hold henceforth will be measured against.
Still, it's achingly beautiful to the extent I'd love to know how it plays, the action and if it's a heavy old thing like my last Tele.

On the topic of pulling off your knobs (cue Finbarr Sunders having apoplexy), do other Strat owners dispense with the volume knob and just use the spindle? I find that I keep inadvertently adjusting the volume otherwise, especially when mu playing gets exuberant.
I do find that I knock the volume knob fairly often on my Strat exactly like you say. I have considered switching it with the middle tone knob as I never use that anyway, or just getting rid of it all together and having one volume and one tone knob. It is however quite useful for rolling on volume while playing something (think Roy Buchanan), but for some reason not quite as natural as I find it on the Telecaster.
New aquisiation, Fender Deluxe Players Strat in Crimson Red Transparent.
Body and neck are actually destined for different projects, but I couldn't resist putting them together and giving it a blast! Interesting because the previous owner must have been a Hendrix fan, he has either turned the pickups round or fitted left-handed ones. Doesn't seem to affect the sound though. Anyway I shall be replacing the scratchplate with a black one, and all new electrics.
Watch this space and you'll see what happens to the neck.
