No question. It's one of a very small number of songs in the history of pop music that a huge number of people can recognise from a single beat (or maximum two). It's genius.

Bohemian Rhapsody

Another for 'God Only Knows' also their 'Good Vibrations'

The Best Britsh Rock and roll record is Johnny Kidd and the Pirates
'Shaking all Over'

A lot of Beatles stuff can be graded on several different themes

Ditto rolling Stones

Ditto Elton John/Bernie Taupin collaborations 'Im still Standing', 'Saturday Night Alright for fighting' 'Daniel'
Ray Davies of the Kinks, one of the Best song writers for many a year

There is no one rcord but a lot you could take to your'Desert Island' and not tire of. I am down to my top 250, so bugger the 8 limit record

Are we forgetting Madge? smile

"Like a virgin" or maybe "Holiday" which was even more poppy.

I bloody hate pop music (having done it), but 'Owner of a Lonely Heart' or 'Slave to the Rhythm' would be the best pop music ever 'PRODUCED' as the o/p asked.

Time sensitive of course. They were well ahead of their time.

It's got to be something by Blondie.

Heart of Glass?

Atomic?

Union City Blue?

Picture This?

Rapture?

The list goes on...

Much as I dislike their output, probably as I don't like much pop, ABBA are the masters of shiny pop music. Dancing Queen, Waterloo, Take a Chance, SOS etc are all perfectly written pop songs.

And I'm not clicking the link on a work computer to check, but I trust the Carly Rae Jepson nomination was a link to the Miami Dolphins version of the song?
