It's not for me either, mostly because i just don't like the sound of the vast majority of the songs of that genre. I don't know why, maybe it's the whiny slide guitar but it just leaves me cold.

Don't get me wrong, anyone who is a recording artist has some serious talent but it just isn't for me.

My music taste is broad but i could never get C&W, as another poster pointed out it just seemed a bit...whiney?

However, this summer we went to the US (South Carolina) and the hire car radio was stuck on 92.5 Kickin Country. It seemed to fit with the sultry weather so i let it play and discovered that, as with many things, there's a time and a place...

My music of choice is usually DnB and other bass heavy electronic music - our Suburban seemed to have a decent sub (somewhere) and it rocked this:
Morgan Wallen - thinkin bout me

I wouldnt say i'm converted but this is as close as it comes!

I shall study these dance moves just in case smile

I guess. I hired a Harley one one of my trips to the USA. Sure, it was crap compared to my Honda Fireblade but it seemed to fit at that time.

Thing is, when I got home and rode my own bike, I thought "fk me, that Harley really was bloody awful".

Never again.

Quite!
I bloody loved the MASSIVE Suburban we had over there.
Here it would be awful (too big, too ponderous).

I will not be starting a rhinestone collection hehe

To be fair, i wasn't suggesting that Country music was whiny, it was the whiny tone of slide guitars that leaves me cold, not the whole thing.

Well I find C&W a bit boring, but have to admit it does boast many fine guitar players.

Although I too hate the whiny slidy noise- Slopes, I'm with you there!

I'd still rather listen to that than punk, funk, reggae, soul, opera, disco, metal ... etc.

Apart from the corny lyrics and pointless key changes, I have a lot of time for C&W.

What's the phrase, blues and country had a baby and called it rock n roll ?

Great thread
Over time I have also got into Country. Loving 'Smoke Break' by Carrie Underwood. Also the Zac Brown band and Ghost Hounds. Even sat and watched the CMA christmas show one christmas eve. And really enjoyed it. So yes im in.

Ummm. Don't like the whiny "My baby done left me and I'm drinking" songs.

Like Dolly for a bit of kitsch, Marshall Tucker Band is good and I like Cash in small doses.

One off songs - Friends in Low Places, Garth Brooks and I Like Trucks, Kendall Carson

Like all genres, there are some cliched, predictable songs and bands, but theres also some great songs too. Enjoying it just now as quite a few bands are crossing over into other non-trad sounds. C&W isn’t just Dolly P!

I also see it being vastly different to folk - very very different to folk.
