Remember first exposure to 'Surfing' - just incredible. I was in a Fiat X1/9 at the time and the power of the music masked the awfulness of the car and it's targa arrangement.

I love the way he plays the guitar in a way that you don't need words at all. Seeing him in London next month, yipppeeee!!!

But you do however need to pull stupid faces to accompany the guitar laugh

I saw Satriani at Graspop last year. Zakk Wylde was on after playing for Ozzy and just seemed crap by comparison. Infact he was just pretty crap really but I think he was wasted.

Anyone a fan and going to see him on his UK tour? I am going to the BIC.

I kinda bought the ticket on a spur as I only know a few of his tunes. Been delving deeper today and really liking soem of it - some of its very chilledo ut and soulful.

Anyone?
Might be going to the exact same show - got a txt last night saying he was going to be there.

I bought it and it hasn't sunk in yet.

sounds as though he used quite a few effects this time - thank god it's not another engines of creation.

teh extra DVD stuff is cool though on the double cd.
Seems to be suitably titled "funkilus" funky. And +1 for it not being another EOC.

The DVD stuff is pretty good thumbup

FTLOG, gets very technical.
Once you get used to the patterns and take it in stages, it's not actually too bad. Does help if you've got a long reach though hehe

This is quite good to watch it being unravelled: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNKK5jxztHI

And this for a complete CC of Vai live: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWgbMY-s_2g

Back to the point in question - didnt like anything after Crystal Planet personally. Time Machine (the live bit) is worth getting hold of

Agreed.

Taken in sections at a time, FTLOG aint too bad (I've never nailed the real fast speed picking bits though). I never got to grips with the little nuances Vai gave the tune with the trem either.

have you tackled any of his more recent stuff? i nearly broke my fingers a couple of times and started to cry.

lol. seriously though, the live version from the first G3 gig I think is the best live version. the astoria one gets a bit too wierd and i think his guitar slips out of tune too.

otherwise a great vid.

for subtle but brilliant trem action, whispering a prayer has to be right up there. stunning piece of music.

n e 1 else sseing satch in dublin?
Cool #9 is one I can cope with the rhythm and melody. That one-handed-arpeggio stuff though [bumnote]................[/bumnote]

I am going to see him at Hammersmith on the 20th.
If you are going to see him and have never seen him live, you are in for a real treat. I think Stu Hamm is playing bass for him, also an extremely impressive musician.

Guy's,
Just a quick post to bring this back to the top.....wink

Went to the Birmingham Symphony Hall last night to see Satch what can I say - AWESOME!! music

First time I've seen hime live, the guy is brilliant.
Bought the Live CD a few weeks ago but wasn't really prepared for the experience of actually being there!

Wasn't too sure about Paul Gilbert though - didn't think his stuff was as melodic or flowed as well as Satch's.

Chris

Makes me want to go and dig my guitar out and attempt to learn again...

I usually drive to Hammersmith Appollo as there is a big NCP just round the corner.

I have taken the trains, but becuase I have to get to Liverpool Street It's always a frantic rush to try and make the last train.
