Lets look at our guitars thread
Discussion
Don't own anything really special yet but they've all mean something to me
Acoustics:
Black Eko - bought for £10 in a charity and plays nicely, soon to be converted to electro-acoustic
Old Yamaha CG-100A - My first guitar and the guitar I learnt on
Steel strung Yamaha FG-403MS - The guitar I generally play at the moment
Dodgy strat copy with original mid 90's stickers - my first electric:
BC Rich ST-3, snakeskin - First electric I bought myself and loved it then and still do. Think BC Rich guitars are underrated. Think it must be fairly rare as they seem hard to come by on Ebay etc:
Music-Drive - No, I've never heard of them either. Bought off a friend at uni as I couldn't afford a PRS at the time. It actually has a really nice finish (imo) and a nice tone to it:
That's pretty much all at the moment bar a few amps and an old Fender P bass copy I lent to a friend years ago and haven't seen since

Due to extreme poverty, I've recently had a huge upheaval in my guitar collection:
Sold the Hank Marvin Strat ...
... and bought this one at half the price! Not even sure what it is to be honest, feels a bit light and the body has been repainted red over black. Originally it had two humbuckers - which didn't work! So I sold all the other bits and bought a scratchplate complete with pickups, switches etc and dropped it straight in. Not quite of course - these things seldom fit. Needed a bit of work but I think I've got it sounding just fine now.
Before:
After:
Sold the Rickenbacker 12-string ...
... and replaced it with a Burns Double Six at a third the price!
Finally, sold the '59 Reissue Les Paul ...
and bought this Greco at a quarter the price - actually it was very nearly a fifth! And it knocks spots off any Les Paul I've ever played. Greco were the first Jap company to seriously challenge Gibson with theri high-quality replicas, even before Tokai. This is a really early one, January 1979 according to the serial number, before they wwere calling them "Super Real" in the same script as on a Les Paul.
Also sold this Epiphone Casino without replacing it ...
... well I do have another anyway, it's a natural one with a Bigsby.
And the Burns Marvin went as well ...
... as it was a bit too much like a Strat really and I have enough of those.
Still got a few left though:
Martin D18
Fender MIJ 60's Reissue Strat in Sonic Blue
Briarwood BXF10036 (acoustic 12-string)
Fender David Gilmour Strat (put together by myself, started life as a MIM Classic 50's Strat)
Gibson 335, was walnut, now resprayed blue (I'll explain why if you like, but warning, it's a long story).
Fernandes Revolver Pro (my only metal guitar, complete with Sustainer)
and of course
Rickenbacker 4001 bass (see photo earlier in this thread)
The Telecaster (built by myself from parts) and the George Harrison psychedelic Strat (a MIM Classic 60's) are currently on eBay but hopefully after that I won't need to sell any more.

Some nice stuff there - both coming in, going out & staying.
I'd be interested to know how you built the collection up. Enthusiastic amateur? Working muso? Over how long and the why's.
Probably take you ages to build up the story - I also think it would be interesting for others building a collection as they all seem to compliment each other.

Enthusiastic amateur and occasionally working muso Asterix. To build up this collection has taken a few years, the earliest acquisition is the blue Strat which I bought in 1996 and is the only one I have which has actually earned me any gig money.
Although this may soon change as I have an audition this evening - wish me luck!
ETA Nice Les Paul Asterix!

I only ever did one audition. Didn't play a thing - mainly because there was a rock legend, or so he thought, called 'Angel' also auditioning and he wouldn't shut up about how good he was in a Whitesnake type of vibe
I muttered something about Cream, Floyd and Zep and was given the gig. Turned out down the line, we got deal with Nude in the UK and Sony worldwide and was 'pro' for four fun filled years
Not many can say they were big in Poland & Turkey... (for good reason, haha)
Still can't play for toffee though. No justice, eh?
Anyway - best of luck. Let us know how you get on.

... Let us know how you get on.To make up for depressing you all, here's a nice photo of my 335.
No matter what I try I cannot put photos (as they were called) on the computer/internet/whatever but the current armaments include:
335 Sunburst
Danelectro reissue,
Gretsch electrone,
Hoppus hybrid Fender bass,
Peter Hook's acoustic Martin (used to write the riffs for the last 2 NO albums (!)
...generally run through Marshall valve and a generic Fender bass combo.
and a stray blue acoustic of indeterminate parentage.
Cheers.

Got a couple more, A bad telecaster I made, another blue Squire/Squier I bought in the states, and a very nice tanglewood tomkat, but they're all in the UK.
THIS Is the important one:
My first electric, Fender Squer Stratocaster in sunburst. Got it for christmas when I was about 13/14 (Year 8 at school) So it's been with me half my life! Bought from Berry's music in Worksop, and I think I strummed along to some Bob dylan and "Breakfast at Tiffany's".
Not original of course, she's a bit battered, the largest chip coming from my first ever gig with my old band,, I jumped off the stage into the crowd at the end of the set, and ttted the corner! The electrics are a new development, this year I bought a pre-wired scratchpate for easy installation (HAH!) Of course I wanted H-S-H setup, so had to buy one for a JDM guitar, meaning routing out a little of the body, re-doing all the wiring, then making an adaptor plate (the black part behind the scratchplate). All in all I'm proud of it. The bridge pickup's got this really raspy sound to it I like, and neck & middle really helps to mellow things out.
Play through a Digitech RP6 pedal after my RP5 had given me many years of faithful service. Searched high and low for it. Amp is a 30 year old Carlsbro Hornet Lead 45 my uncle used to play bass through back in the day.
Good range of sounds, and I like the way it doesn't sound like Telecaster/vox AC30, Les Paul/Marshall half stack, etc.
Just quickly:
Hagstrom Futurama bass. Saving for freezer, flat flooded, no need for freezer, bought bass.

What did you think of the 401. I used to have a DSL 100 head years ago that I loved - I'm looking for a smaller tube amp.john
Incidentally, they do tend to get quite hot too and lots of owners build in aftermarket cooling fans and such. e.g.
