This is always going to be a subjective topic as everyone has their favourites or who they think is underrated.

I think for me any underrated guitarist is someone who is ignored by most people yet plays an important part. Someone mentioned Stone Gossard of Pearl jam and he is a very good example of the point but as this thread has shown, there are so many possibilities

Adam Jones of Tool - mainly because he is overshadowed by Maynard & Danny..

Apparently he and Tom Morello taught one-another to play by experimenting.

Have to agree with Lukather too. Some (not all; the last one was mediocre) of his solo albums are fantastic.
