Just skimming through this thread to see what suggestions there are. This post made me laugh.

Don’t get me wrong I love the Foo Fighters; I’ve seen them 4 times over the past 20 years, but what I can’t get my head around is the suggestion that they should’ve been bigger

No, you’re talking about the Foo Fighters, the other reference is the Foo foghters, totally different set up and quite a unique sound. Possibly.

I think Boney M were also quite the big hit back in those crazy 1970’s.

Porcupine Tree - great musicians but no tunes and Steven Wilson cant sing well enough.

Oceansize, another near miss for the same reasons with the added problem that they never worked out what the vocals were for.

There are quite a few on this thread I would agree with, including some bands I have seen quite a few times

Another band I'd suggest would be Wolfsbane, who were blowing bigger bands away with their support slots at the time, until Iron Maiden needed a replacement for Bruce Dickinson

I was about to post the same - I saw GG several times at the City Hall Newcastle in the late 70's and their virtuosity was on another level to most other prog bands of the time

However their music is not easily accessible which probably accounts for the failure to be recognised by those beyond the cognoscenti.

The only band, besides his own, I've ever heard Zapper be complimentary about
