Drum and Bass / Jungle - Mid 90's
Discussion
I used to know Ostro really well who worked at 5HQ, he used to let me go up in the loft above the offices to hunt for tunes. I finished my collection of Formation releases 1-100 filling in the last few gaps.
Don’t remember when they did a compilation to mark the 100th release? It had mixes that included a tune from every release, the funny thing was that I had to lend them a handful of them as no one else seemed to have any!

Yes, and BPM too!You say perfected in Leicester, what I loved about the hardcore scene was how local it was. No internet to spread the music. Leicester had Formation, SS, Tango, EQ etc, Coventry had Doc Scott and Neil Trix, Fallout etc, all different sounds from different places.
Of course Moving Shadow in Stevenage, Reinforced North London and so on. I worked all over the country in 92, so was able to visit the local record shops and by tunes that didn’t appear in my locals. Back when tunes were pressed by the hundred and distributed to local shops by the artist, that was the only way to get them. Amazing times that will never sadly be seen again. The speed and quality the hardcore scene grew at was awesome, I’m so glad I can say I was there from day one to see hardcore grow and morph into darkside, jungle and then dnb. Best years ever!

Yes and yes to all of that 100%. Your last line is the thing I feel most lucky about, seeing hardcore go into darkside and then jungle, epic times. You say perfected in Leicester, what I loved about the hardcore scene was how local it was. You forgot ratty and mastersafe too.
Total kaos, junction21, rage, bearcage etc and then travelling out of town to the edge, cue club, sanctuary, fabric, the end, the institute etc, we really were lucky to be there at exactly the right time.

Did any of you go to equinox at Milwaukees? I played there weekly resident from approx 95 till it closed down in 98. Awesome times chatting to all the big names every week, got tons of white labels and TP’s off them.
Yes of course, Mastersafe! One of my favourite ever mixes is him at Total Kaos. I played alongside him at a Diehand reunion that 5HQ put on around 2002 or so

Wonder if I have you on a tape pack somewhere?
Total Kaos nights were always the best especially at starlight and rage

The darkness period was probably one of my favourites.

I've had a great year returning to the roots.
One tune in particular for some reason has sparked me to post. Currently this is my go to - just clean and on point. All turned up on the Sennheisers to max - ears vibrating with true sound.
