Drum and Bass / Jungle - Mid 90's
Discussion
2 tunes I want to ID from late 95/96. One I have never ID'd but was rinsed on the Pirate a fair bit. The other I found and was on surburban base I think, but taken down years ago, probably back up now but forgotten the name.
Tune 1 - Ahead of its time, released around early 96, d and b and not jungle, starts off with a loop of a woman screaming and and a back ground dramatic synth sound, looping through the intro. Tight beat. Then it all goes silent before the drop with a male voice saying "control". Then a pause, then again ts says "control". Another pause, then it says control again but slowed down and stretched out before an instant drop, which is a wavy bassline, and the tune is a bit jump up. I have never ever found it online or ID'd it ever, but it was a rinser. Sort of thing Mickey Finn / Kenny would have placed back in the day.
Tune 2 - Suburban Base (I think or similar label). 1996. Had the submarine bong / ping / hull sound all the way through. Just before the drop a robotic creepy digital voice says "whats the difference" - probably taken from a film. Anorher banger, chooped up amens and a dready sounding bass. Typical of Zincs style back in the day.
Any ideas?

Tune 2 is by Tyranny, you are right, it was an alias used by Zinc for just 2 releases.
I absolutely hammered both sides, the other side being even more "Zinc", it could have easily been a Ganja release. The B Line reminds me of What is it? which was on Ganja.
Just for more geekery, the sample "Is this a game, or is it real?" and "What's the difference" are both taken from the film War Games.
I'll have a think on tune 1!

Thanks for those. First time I have heard control since a tape pack in the late 90's and that wasn't great either. That tune was right when I started taking the sound seriously at the age of around 14. I remember it was on one of my first 2 cassettes (ended up making 180 pirate cassettes and bought around 26 tape packs after) so it is quite special to me. Bit of a st tune in some ways but the intro always did it for me. D and B was just about to be set alight by the likes of Dom&Roland, No U Turn, Boymerang, Formation, Renegade Hardwear, Hardleaders and Dread. But those early tunes are great.
There was a remix of Ready or Not (Dope Dragon) which I never managed to find either, loved that track. Again right at the start of my journey.

The Ready or not remix was never released, I wanted it for years! Door Dragon, V, Full Cycle and Philly Blunt were my favorite labels, there was nothing I didn’t know about them.
Many years ago I built a website dedicated to them and got feedback from Full Cycle and Roni Size’s manager, they were that impressed they wished their own sites were as in depth, and regularly sent me guest list entry to their nights!
When Facebook started I ran a fan page for Full Cycle and Dope Dragon, when they wanted to relaunch FC they asked if they could take over the page as it had such a good following, as a thanks I got VIP entry to some Reprazent nights and met Roni after for a chat or two!
V Recordings have done a series called V Legends over the past few years, and early next year are releasing a compilation album and digital version of old tunes that never got released back in the day, there are some crackers!
And finally, I am currently half way through my own remix of Ready or not (Dope Dragon version)

I had some great vinyl back in the day, the Smokers Inc album being one, some Grand Larceny tunes too. Chronic was one of my faves along with Dread, Moving Shadow, and Kartoonz but there were loads I loved and I had loads of white labels. I used to always like Dr S Gaschet mixes.

I used to MC and DJ, but never had my own decks.I am seriously contemplating buying a set if 1210s from Ebay and starting up again. Looking online at MK2's it appears the best way is to buy a single deck twice for around 500 each, budget for another 250 per deck for servicing, and have the set for 1500.
