The Beatles - "Now And Then"

Listened to it for the first time this morning, an a couple of times since and it is rowing on me. I would describe it as great, but not up to the standard of the original greats. The construction is good, especially the way they worked in the key changes, but of course the mot impressive thing about it is the technology that made it possible in the first place.
I agree that the Beatle split up at the right time. Sgt Pepper was their peak and they went downhill from there. The White Album was not just their worst album, but is in my top ten of the worst album from anybody, anywhere, ever. And Let It Be is little better.
The only problem with their splitting up is that it affected everyone else, With the Beatles gone there was nobody to complete with so they didn't bother, and pop (so-called) music went back to the same old crap it had been before the Beatles came along.
I know all music is subjective. But The White Album the worst? Come on! I agree that the Beatle split up at the right time. Sgt Pepper was their peak and they went downhill from there. Revolver, White Album and Abbey Road definitely in the top three for me. Sgt Pepper could have been great but it’s like they ran out of steam half way through, massively overrated.
I think the video for it is fab, i was always a bigger fan of George, he was such a nice guy and super cool too, so it was great to see him so prominent in this too.
If you didn't care about the Beatles i can see how it wouldn't grab you on it's own merits in this day and age, but it touches something nostalgic in my mind, I'm glad they made it.
Hopefully you enjoy the videos as much as i did.

Some of the CGI is a bit ropey but the end when they all fade out is quite moving to this Beatles fan.If you didn't care about the Beatles i can see how it wouldn't grab you on it's own merits in this day and age, but it touches something nostalgic in my mind, I'm glad they made it.

Also good to hear people have different opinions about their music,it talks to us in different ways I suppose.
I think the “new” song is rather lovely and a touching memory of John and George.

My parents used to get me a Beatles single every Christmas . My first was in 1963 ' She loves you ' I was 5 year old.
That treat ended in 1968 with ' Lady Madonna '.
My favourite was George , and in 1970 I got the ATMP album for Christmas . I remember my father moaning how expensive it was at the time.
I have to say though , they should have just left it with the roof top gig. The last but one track on Abbey Rd was the pointer to things to come and they knew they were finished .

Thanks for that, much appreciated as I was a year old when they split so missed the whole story as it unfolded so I’m in no position to comment on how I expect I would feel otherwise. My parents used to get me a Beatles single every Christmas . My first was in 1963 ' She loves you ' I was 5 year old.

I’m just glad McCartney is still around in my lifetime and doing what he still clearly loves and holds dear.
For what it’s worth I think old brown shoe by GH is up there with their best songs but again someone may disagree which I think is great.
Still talking about them after all these years is quite amazing I think too.

A very special band,
I've been listening to it on and off for a few days. Little of the melody has stuck in my head and only a handle of words so I don't consider it an instant classic song like many others from the Beatles; I won't be adding it to my playlist. It's beautifully produced, has little memory evoking echoes to past songs and though I thought some of the CGI was ham fisted I enjoyed seeing the four of them 'recording' it.
It seems to me that it's little more than John tinkering on the piano; it's unfinished, work in progress and perhaps ought to have been left as such. I also doubt that John and especially George would have wanted it to have been the final Beatles song.

I think it's very "clever" what they have done.
I'm not so sure it's a great last song but it's a good song which I find quite sad and haunting.
The video I find a bit off. Again it's very clever and it's nice to see the mix of how they looked at different times but having John in many shots acting "goofy" just seems out of place to me.
I always thought Free as a bird was too much like ELO myself

Rick Beato did a great video on how the song was done using AI

Thanks for that. Very interesting and my thoughts exactly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PAkVIFUZPQ
Well I couldn't disagree more - indeed if you dive into the structure you should be pleasantly surprised. I certainly was, as I'd always held the opinion that John wrote the better words, and Paul the better music (although I will concede that both were capable of invading the other's territory from time to time).
This chap explains it better than I can:
