Also quite keen on other German rock stuff as below..

I don't know how much you know about the history of those two groups, but Eisbrecher exists as a direct result of a dispute within Megaherz. The lead singer, Alexx Wesselsky, parted ways with the rest of Megaherz after the album Herzwerk II. From then on, Megaherz has had a few different vocalists. The album which followed, the simply-titled 5, had a vocalist who stuck around for that one album. For what it's worth, the aforementioned Herzwerk II and Himmelfahrt are my two favourite of the early albums.

Anyway, there's a chance you'll also enjoy Emigrate and Oomph. Emigrate is a side project of Rammstein's guitarist, Kruspe, and releases in English. Most of Oomph's music is German but they have a few tracks in English as well.

You are correct sir! As an aside I'm also very keen on Mono Inc, Powerwolf and a lot of Lord of the Lost with some Gothminister (didn’t realise they were in thisyear's Eurovision eek ) thrown into the mix biggrin

I've never heard of Mono Inc before, but Apple Music suggests some inspiration taken from Depeche Mode and The Cure. You might just have sorted out my soundtrack for the morning's commute! Hopefully my response didn't come across condescending; had you been aware of the history it would have made for a funny coincidence.

For another interesting route into German music, there are playlists of music distributed by the Amiga record label. Amiga the East German state-owned record label which dealt with contemporary music. Bands like City, Karat, and Puhdys are among the more famous from the other side, but there are quite a few listenable synth-heavy songs from the 1980s. This is one of the playlists on YouTube.

I have heard Eivor sing in English and really liked the sound and style of her voice (e.g. I am Fire). However, in her native Faroese, her voice is simply, hauntingly exquiste:

Her music has been in movies/TV I think - trollabundin?

Talking of movies, from "Don't kill me" (netflix) I also found that I like Italian rap...no, really!

Chadia Rodriguez - OK, some of her other songs may be an acquired taste, but most are very listenable.

Also, as an aside, the final fight scene in that film is amazing, imho! Go Mirta... punch

Sometimes not even a language.

Delighted someone has mentioned this.

I listen to quite a bit of French music (Francoise Hardy, Gainsbourg, plenty of house although rarely in French, and of course loads of quality hip hop).

Talking of hip hop, there's a great German track by Curse called Nimms leicht which samples one of the greatest songs of all time, Eugene Record's Overdose of Joy.

I also listen to loads of Irish traditional music although I struggle a bit with the sean-nos singing.

The classical music where the language comes to the fore is probably opera, especially Italian, but also Russian music - say Rachmaninov's All Night Vigil or the Liturgy of St John Chrysostom.

Recently that Pedro Pedro Pedro song with the racoon that was doing the rounds on Tiktok a few weeks ago. Catchy remix of a 1980 Italian song.

The Album ‘Frances the Mute’ by The Mars Volta is about 50% sung in Spanish - and is one of my favourite albums

I'm more of a metalhead but have been over to the Gatebil drift festivals in Norway a couple times & there's concerts on each evening so I've ended up with quite a few norwegian/swedish rap/hip hop groups on my continious rotation. Den BB & Ballinciaga are the main ones that pop up.

Also listen to quite a bit of Jack Parow, a south african rapper. Mix of afrikaans & english, some really good songs, mix of rap, pop & some rock.

So.... did you get to listen to Mono Inc, and if so what's the verdict? (I'll accept they’re not for everyone yes )

I did, and I was impressed! I'm surprised I had never heard of Mono Inc before, but I picked an album at random and ended up with After the War. Was it a good choice or is there a specific album you'd recommend? Definitely going to listen to more of their playlist. I ended up on a bit of an East German kick as a consequence, though, so the past few days I've been listening to City. If there's a Mono Inc album you're especially fond of, I'll give it a try too.

Funny you should mention Jack Parow, for I've only found his stuff in the past 48 hours. Previously the only South African musicians I could've named were Die Antwoord. Although both have apparently had DJ Hi-Tek as a producer at one time or another, based on Google.

In fairness I like them all so far - Welcome to Hell is, imo, very good with disc 2 being a 'classical' version of disc 1. Book of Fire is also great.

As anaside through Mono Inc I now also like VNV Nation...

Whilst at the other end of the spectrum, a bit of Ms Jones, particularly this version…
