How about Stone Sour, its got Corey Taylor lead singer in Slipknot. I`m not a fan of Slipknot but Corey brings something fresh to Stone Sour.

I`m also a fan of Avenged Sevenfold and Bullet For My Valentine, both of which are in my multichanger at the moment.

Lamb of God
A huge +1 from me on that one.

I actually prefer them to Pantera these days. They've got four albums, all of which are excellent - As The Palaces Burn; New American Gospel; Ashes of the Wake (good one to start with) and Sacrament.

Enjoy who could well be the best metal band ever.

I couldn't help feel that St Anger was Metallica bunging out any old st to see if anyone would buy it purely because it's "Metallica".
Have you watched Some Kind Of Monster?

That should give you some insight as to what happened while they were recording that album. There's a couple of massive surprises in that film: 1) Lars Ulrich is actually a bit of a dude, and really has his head screwed on and 2) Hetfield is a whiny little b1itch who needs to remember that he's getting paid an awful lot of money to do what millions of people would do for free.

Oh yeah, and ol' Lady Face really knows what's what.

Another vote for Lamb of God here- if you like Pantera style riffs then check out the songs 'Ruin' '11th hour' and 'laid to rest'.

Most of the others I can think of have been mentioned but you could try The Haunted.

Also 2 Ton Predator, Mastodon, don't think any one has mentioned Tool either

The Almighty.

I understand there will be a new album this year, not too sure if it is the classic line up of warwick/friesen/munroe/london.
However, you know that anything Ricky Warwick is involved with will be totally awesome, dude.musicsmokinevilmusic

Forgot to say...

Orange Goblin!

Earlier release were more stoner rock fare (although still excellent), but the most recent releases "Thieving From the House of God" and "Healing Through Fire") are real foot stomping stuff.

Avenged Sevenfold - lead singer has a fantastic voice. Listen to 'Dear God' and you will be hooked.

As a metal fan for almost 35 years, I'd have to say I agree with thehawk. I also saw them supporting H&H (at Brighton) and I also thought they were dreadful. Having said that, I suspect they may have been more tolerable were it not for the vocals (if you can call it that) growled by some neanderthal lookalike who was just pacing back and forth across the stage like a bored orangutan. He had no stage presence and no discernable talent.
Of the others mentioned above, Black Label Society, Stone Sour and Apocalyptica are all very good. If you want some more basic R'n'R try Airbourne, or for a more Southern USA sound, try Black Stone Cherry.

You could try a band called Corrosion Of Conformity they are kind of similar, in fact James Hetfield sings on one of their tracks.

Just read the bit about new bands, they aren't exactly new!
