Music changes over time, there is a lot of trance still about, if anything there is more "proper" trance today than there was 5 or 10 years ago as the sound has come back into more mainstream music. What seems different these days is the attention span of the audience and I think that's a shame, going to A&B gigs back in 2007, 2008 the special moments were when the crowd all had their hands in the air, and those don't seem to happen any more. I won't go and see A&B any more, its not special any more.
You're right about the attention span... every EDM track (Brian Kearney incl) seems to cater for those who enjoy the beat dropping off a cliff several times a track. It's just how it is now I suppose.

I gave them both a listen. Both good, I'll give them that, but when you compare them to something like Lange's remix of Agenda - Heaven, they're not even in the same stratosphere.
Are there particular memories associated with those tracks?

Ref the A&B comment, I was them a little while back at Print works (backstage dontchaknow) and they have changed their sound. Far tougher and techier, but still had the final 30 mins to sing along...

I think a lot of it is the memories associated with the tracks, it's why the first stuff you heard is always great, especially if it was when you turned 18, started going out, had some amazing nights etc. Ask an 18 year old now what music was good in 20 years and they'll say stuff from the early 2020's, probably.

As for A&B at Printworks, I was there too, but not backstage, and was very much "meh". I was there on the first night (Wednesday??), apparently the setlist was a lot better on the second night though. Compared to seeing them at Ally Pally in 2010, ish, there really is no comparison. Then again, A&B to me will always be Oceanlab and their first couple of albums. There are better producers/acts on Anjunabeats than A&B these days.

I'd be interested to listen to some modern recommendations to see how they measure up to the stuff of 20 - 30 years ago if anyone cares to recommend some. I can well believe there is good stuff still out there, but these days, I wouldn't know where to start looking beyond the usual Tiesto / Van Buuren.

Incidentally, I've listened to a lot of 'Miss Monique' lately and very much enjoyed. Good tunes and sound quality, she's easy enough on the eye too.

Have a look here: https://soundcloud.com/Don1Gibson

The El hombre and CHP tagged ones are house - everything else is trance and modern stuff. Exit velocity, Untitled and Finisher have all got some real belters in there. Live is the one I’m most proud of. That’s a real drop of me.

I agree totally (apart from Oceanlab - Rollerball is the first time I knew A&B). The memories and associated times/experiences make a far stronger connection with music. Therefore going out and finding new music in those settings makes new memories…

May I suggest Sir has a look at my SoundCloud (post above) and search for Noughty Trance? It was my retrospective of that era without the Now! That’s What I Call Trance Vol. 6 repeats of Cafe del Mar, Carte Blanche etc being thrown together forever.

Oh, and Serious Reborn as well smile

Had a quick look, straight off the bat "outbound" and "finisher" are getting saved to my library.

My wife laments the fall of peak trance, she even used to do some vocals for a friend of hers who did some production. I occasionally try and present her with what may be worthy, in her mind, modern trance.

I was a late starter. I think my first exposure to trance was the first Euphoria in 1999 on CD. Had they been vinyl I would probably have worn them out. LOL

Of course, back then I didn't realise it was called trance. I just knew that I loved it.

Now, 24 years on, I still love trance. Mostly I listen on https://www.di.fm and also listen to bigdub's compilations and also Don1's.

I've met both bigdub and Don1 in person too, but only socially rather than hearing them play.

Thanks for the suggestion

I tried having a listen but SoundCloud just doesn't seem to work very well for me. That finisher one won't play at all. Tried the live one but that played for 10 minutes before freezing. Not sure if anyone else has these problems but everything else I use works fine so it must be the app.

I've given you a follow anyway smile

Not your fault dude. Since they want you to pay £8 a month, they're not exactly going the right way about it.

Hmmm. Very fast and very chaotic. It wouldn't put me in any trance. 140bpm+ is a tricky one...

No thank you, I hate techno with a passion. Nothing happens in it.

Yeh, Neurocore's stuff seems to get labelled along the lines of ambient industrial hardcore, if that isn't an oxymoron! I would certainly say it has some trancey elements to it and a fairly unique sound. Just thought I would see what others thought!
