I saw James Grant in Liverpool last night - he was very good. About 100 people in the room I would say.
Presumably that's "Love and Money" James Grant? Does he play a mix of Love and Money and solo stuff?
Indeed that very James Grant.

He played a mixture. Quite a lot from Strange Kind Of Love. He said as those songs were going down well he'd play a few more from that album, so he did.

I'd not heard any of this solo stuff before so I will have to make a couple of CD purchases.
Cool. Strange Kind of Love is my favourite L&M album. I'll look out for him in my neck of the woods. There is only Fife left on the current run of shows and that's a long way from Kent.

Went to see Gerry Cinnamon in Dublin Saurday, my first visit to the 3Arena despite going to Dublin alot.

The Arena itself is pretty cool, however the beer queues were massive. Dropped 3Arena an email this morning about it, I'm back there in 2 weeks for Liam Gallagher.

They have admitted they knew Gerry was going to be busy but admitted they didn't get the staff levels correct for the gig and they have reviewed it for LIam.

Gerry was decent as expected.

One of my best gigs was ash playing on a iron boat in Bristol.

So hot the guitar necks were warping during every song , busy night for the guitar tech.

I went to see Steve Hackett in Sheffield last night - he was the original guitarist in Genesis when they were proper (Peter Gabriel era). He's got a cracking band together touring as Genesis Revisited but does some of his little publicised but very good solo work. Lead singer Nad Sylvan who in voice and demeanour is as close as you'll get to Peter Gabriel, a stage persona as mad as a box of frogs in other words.

Three hours long with an encore and absolutely exquisite playing. Would see again.

This sort of thing:

That'll be Thekla - saw Juliana Hatfield there earlier this year.

Had tickets for "Orchestral Manoeuvrers In the Dark" on Monday. Absolutely fantastic live and they had to Balls to open with "Stanlow" from Organisation. Andy's Dada dancing has to be seen to be believed.
Got tickets for their gig in Ipswich on the 16th - definitely looking forward to it now.

Saw Shakespear Sister In Sheffield. I booked tickets for the balcony as we hate getting behind the "Standers" who insist on blocking every bodies view.. Unfortunately it seems the Balcony wasn't full enough and they landed us in one of the front rows right behind what seemed to be the main culprits. Still both Siobhan and Marcella were on good form and it was good to hear songs from Sacred Heart and Hormonally Yours live. They seemed to be enjoying themselves as well.

Ears still ringing a bit
The set list wasn’t as good as previous nights IMHO but a good night nonetheless

Kenny Wayne Shepherd earlier tonight.

Shut your eyes and it could have been SRV on stage. Finished with Voodoo Chile.

Absolutely brilliant guitar blues.

Liam Gallagher last night in Aberdeen. Sound a bit ropey early on, but he was on great form, and the mainly young crowd were bonkers.
Enjoyed his interaction with the audience too - He chucked a pair of maraccas to a young guy, and encouraged him to give them a shake - The lad had no idea, LG just said to him 'Some things are not meant to be, young man...'. Loved it.

What did you make of the new arena?

Have they put big screens up beside the stage yet?

Overall it’s great. Been to two shows there now, LG and Alice Cooper. Sound for Alice was perfect, better than last night so clearly not the fault of the venue. Yes there were 3 screens above the stage last night, but also a huge one behind the stage. The floor is the place to be, seating is all pretty far from the stage, and it’s a wide arena, a bit like the Hydro.

They are getting to grips with handling crowds from a security and especially bar service point of view - it still takes the casual staff an age to serve anyone. The car park is great, underground and easy in and out, but extortionate at £10, and a stupid system where you need to pay after the even at a machine or an app, which is different to all the other car parks in Aberdeen. Typical city logic.

I've been along to Oil and Gas Europe, just not a gig yet.

The £10 parking fee is a bit much. You get 24 hours to pay using the app. They charge a "convenience fee" when you do.

I can't see me driving to a gig though. Hopefully they get transport links improved.
