Papa won't leave ya Henry
papa won't leave ya boy

The smell of her
still on my hands
as I
raise the cup to my lips

He's a God
He's a man
He's a ghost
He's a guru

Three lyrics by Nick Cave

That qualifies for the Interesting Rhymes thread as well.

I haven't read all 30 pages, so

"You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave"

and from the same song

" they stabbed it with their steely knives, but they still can't kill the beast"

This one always reminds me of growing up in the 70s:

"Reminded of the starving children, we cleaned our plates with guilty minds"

One of the more evocative, for me (and I know it's not one line!!)

Overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air
And deep beneath the rolling waves in labyrinths of coral caves
The echo of a distant time comes willowing across the sand
And everything is green and submarine

Echoes - Pink Floyd

And among the madder ones:

Calling is craving is letting the rain in
It peers at me and is it understanding?
Ha!
Holding me with all its derelict charm
Rushing round me and slipping but never falling
Down!
"Give me something I don't need"
My friend cried till his face bled really really red
It stays here all my life, it fears towards me

An entire novel in an opening line:

"Got a wife and kids in Baltimore Jack, I went out for a ride and I never went back"

and my personal favourite:

"I called my congressman and he said, quote: I'd like to help you son but you're too young to vote"

‘Now she’s raising money for the sex appeal’ (Play It Cool - Super Furry Animals)

‘There ain't nothing in the woodshed, except maybe some wood’ (Something for the Weekend - The Divine Comedy)

‘Love, the kind you clean up with a mop and bucket, like the lost catacombs of Egypt, only God knows where we stuck it’ (The Bad Touch - Bloodhound Gang)

Those three make me laugh.

And this, because the imagery is evocative:

‘When the streets are cold and lonely, and the cars they burn below me’ (Made of Stone - The Stone Roses)

More than one line, so cheating, but Springsteen’s ‘The River’ is a song like a novel:

‘Then I got Mary pregnant
And man, that was all she wrote
And for my nineteenth birthday
I got a union card and a wedding coat
We went down to the courthouse
And the judge put it all to rest
No wedding day smiles, no walk down the aisle
No flowers, no wedding dress’

(I thought Looking Back was a Dr Feelgood original, but it turns out to be a Johnny Guitar Watson and Larry Williams song. The Feelgoods' version is a bit busier.)
Updated in 1991… (over 30-fking-years ago - jeez…!!)

I was lookin’ back to see if you were lookin’ back at me to see me lookin’ back at you
