Pink Floyd

Some fantastic songs played by creative musicians - I like the songs.

But as the band evolved they got more and more "over produced" - too many instruments, too many unnecessary stabs of the Hammond organs, too many washes of keyboard etc etc

Basically too much time spent in the studio -

Interesting topic and it's all about opinions of course but I never, ever got the appeal of Oasis, but do get Noel and his stuff since, but the single outstanding one for me, however successful they've been over the years

Def Leppard

Really, really don't get them at all

Another one - Daft Punk

I can understand why people like the music in the same way that I kind of understand why people watch Eastenders even though I never would.

What I don't get is why people who are obviously talented musicians use that talent to produce such aural wallpaper. It seems like Heston Blumenthal opting to work in McDonalds. Are they making huge amounts of money? That would at least explain the business decision even if it makes the musical approach astoundingly cynical.

Drum and Bass or whatever the style is called although this applies to the majority of electronic dance music. I can understand dancing to it in clubs but as it has no tune of melody or lyrics to speak of I can't understand why you would want to listen to it outside of those environments. The faster bmp stuff you can't even dance to. I quite like the Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, Chemical Bros and some other bits and bobs but the vast majority leaves me cold.

Die Antwoord I had never heard of before but recognise the two of them from Chappie. I should hate this but I don't.

Not getting the 'not getting' for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, perhaps listen to Californication,

Otherside
Parallel Universe
Easily
The Velvet Glove
Road Trippin'

are all great songs, of course there are a few songs on the album that are bit more punchy and more demanding of the listener, even Californication (title track) is a great tune, huge depth in the lyrics and soundscape, of course it all sounds like something that has been done before, but it was what? 15 years ago?

(Led Zep - I cannot get them at all hehe nor The Smiths)

Muse! Never really understood why people go crazy for them.
Saw them at Download Festival this year and they put on a good show and I can understand if you like the music how they would be great but I just don't think of them as anything special.

The funny thing with threads like this - you end up with people trying to convert others to their fav band --

Just accept that others can't see what the attraction of the RHCPs is!

For what it's worth, I was a fan back in the dim mists of time but haven't been able to get into anything they've done since BSSM -

I have to say I regard Californication as their low point (even worse than the Dave Navarro album!) - Anthony Kiedis is not a good enough singer for that type of music, John Frusciate was carrying him, I reckon....

And as for depth.....!?! They should stick to superficial songs about sex and drugs!

I'm not a fan of RHCPs either. I've listened to most of their stuff, it's OK but don't really get the hype.

Likewise Coldplay, Mumford & Sons, Paul Weller, The Smiths, New Order, Sam Smith, list goes on. Oh and jazz just sounds like noise to me.

Rap and hip hop in general, I just don't see the appeal at all. Each to their own I guess.

Muse - never understood the popularity. I think when Total Guitar magazine described their guitarist as "the next Hendrix" that put me off them even more hehe

Foo Fighters - generic rock band. Why so popular?

Oasis - very dull and uninspiring music.

RHCP can be a bit hit and miss, but they do have some great songs.

Steve Vai - very accomplished player but as music it just seems very self indulgent and very difficult to listen to. Joe Satriani on the other hand, I love his stuff.

I didn't really get the Rolling Stones either until I went to see them.

I didn't get the Pink Floyd thing until very recently when I sat down and listened to Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety while doing nothing else. Safe to say I get it now! Maybe something similar will happen to me with the others? Who knows.

Adele. As with Sam Smith.

How the fk she's garnered so many awards is beyond me. Every dirge sounds the same as the previous one. And that irritating little yelp she insists on inserting every few seconds has me reaching for the off button. Or a brick.

Prog Rock - Lots of talent musicians who forgot completely about energy and excitement. Certainly needed Punk to get things back on track.

Sam Smith is a good shout, I just don't get the hype surrounding him.
To me his voice sounds whiny and like he can't pronounce the words properly.

My wife tells me I'm wrong. getmecoat

Interesting thread hehe. Three of my favourite bands, The Cure, The Smiths and New Order, who I think are all innovative, original, talented and passionate music makers, are mentioned in the bands that some people just don't get. Each to their own I guess............

I struggle to 'get' the banal, Casio keyboard, nursery rhymes from Erasure, Pet shop boys, Roxette, Soft Cell etc etc

Can't stand Led Zep. I'd rather listen to 2 cats shagging on a dustbin lid.
