Wouldn't it have been marvellous if the first 6 albums had Dio or Martin on vocals....
How come the other two Ozzy albums get a pass?

The other two were so bad nothing would have improved them!

I'm not sure that would have been the case, JD appeared to be going in that direction if you listen to some of the later music as well as the obvious Ceremony track. That said I can't quite imagine Ian Curtis doing World in Motion...
Exactly bangers like WIM, Blue Monday, Blue Monday 88, Tutti Frutti can see Joy Division of doing any of them.

Alan Wilder joining Depeche Mode after Vince Clarke left.
Totally agree, and bands are always much better when they have a member who is classically trained in my opinion.

I always felt he was a bit of an outsider as he wasn't at school with the others and I totally agree that the effort he put in wasn't acknowledged fully.

The band was never as good once he left, and each subsequent album got worse and worse. A shame Alan felt he had to leave land Fletch stayed as he was essentially Martins friend.

Black Celebration, Music for the Masses and Violator are absolutely peak Depeche Mode as for as I am concerned, and Alan was a massive part of that.

I liked Marillion with Fish, but they're better and more multi-layered since Steve Hogarth took over.
We'll disagree on this one.
I'M with CdG on this, Fish was good, but H is brilliant

H is a better singer, Fish is a better front man.In 1988 Marillion were heading for the stratosphere and they ended up at the mountain peaks.

That being said, I acknowledge that it is possoble that the band might have eventually exploded and they would all now be working as music producers or the like.

There's always a lot of love for Marillion on the forums. I've always thought of them as a second rate Genesis.
Anyone give me a couple of tracks which might change my mind? Or are they just a second rate Genesis and I was right?

Hooks in You and Assassin are more Rock than Prog Rock for me but i can kinda see your point and before anyone says they did loads more stuff, those are the two that spring to mind from a brief dig through the memory banks.

Assassin was with Fish singing and Hooks in You is with Steve Hogarth

Nightwish with Floor Jansen.
Don’t set me off.
Tarja was great but have to agree that Floor took them up a notch

Although personally I am more of a fan of Within Temptation and Sharon den Adel

A relevant one this week. Stone Roses with Mani rather than Pete Garner (RIP) definitely went to another level.

Queen with Adam Lambert.

Not that he is better than Freddie of course but without him would the rest be touring arenas and stadiums?

This is one of the best things they've ever done IMO, Steve Hogarth's performance is amazing.

Well, Lambert is certainly better in the role than Paul Rodgers who he replaced!

After two watches on my telly through a Sonos soundbar, nope I was right, second rate Genesis, not for me.

I thought Lambert was great front-man, spot on singing, and never failed
to go for the right note rather opt for the note an octave lower, which Freddie did quite a lot.

Pink Floyd are only remembered in the Gilmour incarnation, that's how much he added.
