Showing my age a bit I suppose, but I remember seeing Metallica when they played Newcastle City Hall. Saw Megadeth Anthrax and Slayer there too. Metallica, in particular, were amazing.

And yes, still in to it. I don't wear the gear any more, but had the full kit back in the day.

I used to between the age of 12 and 18, buy university I'd grown out of it...cut my hair and discovered girls, most of it sounds terrible to me these days, except for a few bands like G&R or Chilli Peppers.

Add me to the heavy metal fan list please clap

Like loads of different "metal" type music, including (as read from my current playlist) AC/DC, After Forever, Alice Cooper, Children of Bodom, Cradle, Dark Tranquility, Dimmu Borgnir, Fintroll, Helloween, HIM, Iced Earth, Maiden, Korpiklaani, Machine Head, Metallica, Moonspell, Morbid Angel, Motorhead, My Dying Bride, Nick Cave, Nightwish, NIN, Opeth, Paradise Lost, RATM, Sepultura, The 69 Eyes, The Gathering, SOAD, Theatre of Tragedy, Trail of Tears, Type O, Within Temptation. I could listen to that lot all day, so my tastes are varied.

Is anyone else here going to any of the Metal festivals in mainland europe? Anyone going to Graspop (www.graspop.be) or Waldrock (www.waldrock.nl)?

Oh yes. Can't beat a bit of Wizard when the mood is right. Absolutely immense stuff in the right setting. Heard a great quote about them once...

"It's not too slow, you're just listening too fast".

Other stuff that floats my metal boat :-

Grand Magus
Ufomammut
Unearthly Trance
Pentagram
Place of Skulls
Nightstick
Cathedral
Orange Goblin
Darkthrone
Bathory
Carcass
Fudge Tunnel
Sourvein
Poison Idea

Still listen to loads of old thrash, grindcore and black metal, plus lots of stoner rock in my mellower moments (Fu Manchu, Nebula, Bongzilla and so on) but can't say anything recent stands out. Too much pointless shouting and being angry for the sake of it and not enough song writing.

Funny how metal always seems to make non-fans sneer, but it's endured for what, cracking on for 40 years, assuming you take Blue Cheer as the starting point, and still attracts new fans. Look at Maiden as a case in point.

I'm more into the rock side of the genre, but enjoy a good bit of metal myself, anything that I think sounds good, no bands in particular that I'd say I hated. I really feel the need to go to a concert soon - would love to see Aerosmith again. The other half's seen NIN and Rammstein, plus he used to attend a lot of the old Donington Monsters festivals so he has some good memories of the 80s scene.

Sneer all they want, an undisputable fact is the best, non-classical musicians have all come from the metal/hard rock area.

Look here everyone - it's all rather simple.

Just dig out your old Black Sabbath albums ..... Vol 4, Master of Reality, Sabotage, Black Sabbath, etc, etc, etc ......

It doesn't get any better than that.

Have been a long time 'casual listener' of metal, can't beat a bit of Maiden. thumbup I have started getting more and more into Lordi, their videos all look the same but that's not really a bad thing :

If you like metal and are close to Andover, head to the George tomorrow night - metal night at the venue next to the pub, and in the past has been quite good for a small gig
