My spotify is playing mind games with me. Listening to one of my daily playlists it makes. Nice mixture of Beatles, Greta Van Fleet, some funky blues stuff. All quite upbeat, positive and happy enough songs.

Then suddenly, Hotel California, up next is Stayin' Alive, Time Stand Still then Don't Fear the Reaper.

All fantastic songs but I think it knows I'm locked up inside going a bit mad!

The Lathums - Artificial Screens

Great new band from Wigan. If you like Arctic Monkeys, Courteeners, etc I would strongly recommend.
Great recommendation. thumbup

How's it with you these days, you still on the front line in the crisis ?

Jesus Jones = Right here right now.

I’ve still got all the Jesus Jones limited 12” vinyls. I can’t even recall how many times I saw the live. The drummer Gen used to write to me. And one of my best mates used to babysit Mike Edwards’ kids. I was so in love with Al at the time.

I’ve just realised how old I appear to be.

Anyway... Loving Blinding Lights by The Weeknd this evening.

A regular on the Trivial Thread asked for the second one to be played at his funeral.

A bit different today. Listening to the Daft Punk - Tron Legacy sound track. Tremendous album & whilst I'm not a bit Daft Punk fan, I adore this soundtrack.

Yes! One of my favourite soundtracks (the film is not so good!)

I'm listening to 'Love Salad' by Four Tet.

To be fair, I liked the filim, even if it isn't amazing, it looks absolutely incredible on blu ray biggrin

They first met at the hospital, she was checking out for good
Her body patched but past repair, and there her angel stood
She was feeling quite confused now that her death was close at hand
She had to face eternity, so why not this mumbling man?
Who bought himself a wedding suit at a local warrant sale
It belonged to some old Turkish man who'd owed and gone to jail
He would caox her mind with talk of love to make her body kind
Because people hate the truth, you know; they need their pack of lies

Growing tired of being foreign, being spat on and shortchanged
He demanded that she leave with him for the land from whence he came
They were herded on like cattle to a ferry at high tide
This unkempt, aging orphan and his helpless, dying bride
But he left her at the other shore crying on the deck
She was slumped against the rail as he had struck to free his neck
and the customs shed was empty as he made his way inside
There were no chimpanzees in uniform to hear his pack of lies

Now she's ascending into heaven with contentment on her face
and Holy God is there to greet and batter her into her place

But meanwhile back on Earth, we see the prodigal's returned
and they're making him the chieftain and they've come to him to learn
How the neighbours in he rich land better steal and kill and lie
and when they ask who calls the weaklings there he just shrugs and says, "Not I!"
Though surrounded by diseases, I stood tall and kept my health
I could have been important if I'd been somebody else
The moral of this story is: This land's a victim-farm
Don't you ever feed a beggar here, he'll eat your fking arm
and don't blaspheme the strong ones if you want to stay alive
Now smile and give them thanks when they say, "Here's a pack of lies!"

Love that song.

ETA - from Wiki;

Despite this, The Guardian newspaper described him as "the most underrated lyricist in pop today", and DJ John Peel said he could "listen to Cathal Coughlan sing the phone book".

God I miss John Peel.... frown

Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats - Howling at Nothing

Sadly his gig at the Albert Hall this month has been postponed so I’m going to have wait a few months to see him live again. The first time was at Glasto and then again at ACL in Texas the same summer (2016). Bloody brilliant, I’m not a big gospel/country fan but I found his sets utterly captivating. As I’m sure you can imagine the weather was slightly better in Texas than Glasto.
