Few people I've shown my 2002 Green HW1 too have said "oh they are better than a USA standard"

I have owned both and I think the HW1 has hotter pickups.
It does, they are Alnico 3's. A matt nitrocellulose finish and you can see the grain of the wood underneath.
Jumbo frets, greasebucket circuit and a really playable neck. It was in a real state when I got it from Fender and I had to get it set up twice by the tech in the now defunct Red Dog Music. Is it better than a US standard? Not sure it is very different and has great tone. A standard Strat is better made and a bit more restrained - the HW1 is an old school thing. I have 2 Strats, this and an FSR US standard and they are completely different - but as good as each other.

Any love for these? Picked it up a couple of years ago It's a Palo Escrito Tele. At heart it's a MIM 60's player with Palo Escrito top. AIUI, Fender picked up a single batch of wood with permission & got somewhere around 800 guitars out of it. Never going to be an especially sought after thing, despite the rarity but it is a looker imo. I've ditched the ashtray & changed the pickups for Texas specials.

Yes - this looks great. How does it play / sound?

It's not my favourite, it has a deep neck that isn't the most comfortable for me but it sounds like a Tele & that's aways a good thing.

Started playing again after many years break (children, work and cars got in the way). Always been a Fender man but felt like going to the dark side with a Gibson. Found this in Camden. A 1978 Les Paul Deluxe Pro, routed out to fit full-sized Bare Knuckle humbuckers, ebony fretboard. Possibly the most beautiful guitar I’ve ever played. I can’t stop picking it up and playing it - exactly what I needed to get those aching finger muscles working again.

Very nice.

My favourite Les Paul had a neck break before I bought it, the repair has failed and it is currently waiting for repair. I’ve got loads of other guitars, but that one just feels special.

It’s amazing how right certain guitars can feel. I tried several new LP standards and a few SGs. I eventually gave up and wandered around the store until I saw this one tucked away. Within seconds I knew I had to get it. It’s a wonderful Frankenstein’s monster and I love it.

Good luck with the repair! It must have been gutting when it happened.

Couple of years ago I bought an Epi Les Paul really cheaply, reason being a neck break which hadn't been repaired properly. I've since had it redone, and rather than attempt to match the colour, have simply clear coated it. Nice little talking point!

Can’t recommend this enough.

Hasn’t got everything I wanted to see, but all the big ones are there.

Making me seriously wish I’d forgone family life and lived in a small flat with a collection of ESP MX’s biggrin

I love this guitar. So much that I have two of them.

I’ve got a fair few guitars, but these are the electric guitars I use the most - by miles.

Shame...I was too late. biggrin Probably well above my pay grade though, especially since I'm retired...

I have been working my way through my guitar collection after buying a load of Elixir coated strings in the Black Friday sales. I changed over to these a couple of years ago as I found I was making my favourite Ernie Ball strings go rusty in the space of one summer rehearsal. I've gradually changed all my guitars over to them, but lost my list of 'last string change' when I handed in my work laptop. paperbag

Anyway it's been a good excuse to slowly work through them and do some fret work, deep cleaning and general set up. Surprising how some guitars I'd fallen out of love with have become enjoyable to play again: I've gone down a gauge on my old electro-acoustic (10-52), now really light for an acoustic, but it was that or I was considering selling it and buying a Fender Acoustasonic. I put flatwounds on my Squier P Bass for a really different feel/sound and went up slightly from 9.5-46 to 10-46 on my Gretsch and after a bit of fretwork I'm back to loving playing it now.

I bought a used Omni acoustic sim pedal and while it's kind of passable when used with an electric guitar, it works surprisingly well when fed by my electro-acoustic, so the lighter string make it pleasant to play and pedal gives me a decent direct recording sound.

Speaking of recording: I've been doing some multitrack recordings, using the acoustic sim and flat wound P Bass. Gives some idea of what the sim sounds like if anyone is interested, in between my vocal warblings:

This is the pedal I used for the guitar parts:

Still got a few more guitars to work through yet, but I'm finding it quite cathartic sorting them all out beyond the usual few I play 99% of the time. smile

Dabbled in a couple of guitars and amps, but there’s not many bargains to be had, especially with the fees and packaging/delivery on top.

I do have my eye on some other bits and pieces over the next couple of days though.

You need an eagle eye on that place. My 60' refin strat came from there for £4k all in eight years ago. I got lucky in that other than paint, everything on the guitar that I can date dates to October 1960, which I couldn't have known until I got my hot little hands on it. Still a gamble but the odd bargain does come up.

@OldSkoolRS that sounded great! Loved it. The pedal 100% does the job too. I'm a year in and a very slow learner so one can only aspire to be as good as one day smile

Think there was a few bargains to be had Gazza. I personally really wanted the (birth year guitar for me) 1977 Gibson LP Gold Top that went for £1600 from what I remember. A few PRS and Ibanez bargains too. Seen the below guitar for £3k at a guitar exhibition recently and that bad boy went for £1100, great looking geetar that. Wish I could A play and B afford these lovely instruments, probably good I can't as I'd have waaaay too many.

That last auction had a 60's Gibson Flying V go for something like £75k, crazy money.

I suspect Joe Bonamassa was in on that one. He's hoovering up all the significant V's. Amazing collection he has but not sure how I feel about it.

I always wondered what happened to Michael Schenker's black & white V which he sold during an expensive divorce IIRC.

Thanks RATATTAK and Cbull really pleased with that pedal and it was only £80 used, much cheaper than the acoustasonic I was considering. beer

I must have mixed that auction up with another one someone else pointed me to recently, though even so if Joe Bonamassa was involved then some of the higher prices aren't such a surprise. Most of my guitars were under the £500 mark (or at least man maths ignoring some money I may have spent after purchase on pickups, etc winkbiggrin). I never fancied a flying V myself as they just look awkward to play. I have had a go on a friend's Explorer and it looked huge on me, exaggerating my small stature. biggrin

I've considered a few toys lately, but seem to talk myself out of them before I actually get to the purchase stage, so I'd be hopeless at an auction anyway. smile
